Multiplayer Questions - problem with save file

Hi!

I've just tried multiplayer for the first few times and the guy I play with, only has the base game. I have all DLCs. I was hosting, so we could both use the DLCs. Everything was fine. I saved the game and the next time, we wanted to play with this saved game, we couldn't play. I hosted. He joined. He wasn't able to download the savegame. Why? Even after we both diasabled our firewalls etc. it still didn't work. We couldn't play. I sent him my save file via skype. He copied it in the correct directory (we made sure it was right). It still didn't work. We tried hotjoining, but this didn't work either. If he's the host, we can play with the save file though (but without DLCs and it has to be his save, not mine). Even hotjoining works as long as he's the host. Of course, we do have the same checksum.

Can someone please help?! Am I doing it wrong?

Well, if they can't help I'm not sure what I can do, they have far more experience in MP issues than I.

The one thing I know is to have you both manually delete your documents/paradox/eu4/gfgx/ folder and let the game recreate it.

Can you start a new game OK, is it only this one save with the problem?

No, it's all games. I sent him a savegame and he tried to start it, but lists it under "incompatible".

He can join, but it doesn't load the savegame. If I join, everything's fine. Shouldn't it be possible to use my DLCs, even though he has none?

Edit: We tried deleting this folder... nothing changed.

If you load with no DLCs can he join?

If that works, maybe you can try various combinations.

I deactivated everything but the DLCs with actual gameplay mechancis in it, but it didn't work either. I'm gonna try various combinations next time, maybe something else will work... Thanks for the hint.

Will the new expansion/patch include multiplayer bugfixes?

I'm sure it will, but whether they address whatever problem you have is unknown - after all, others are not seeing this, as you can see by all the games running successfully in the MP forum here. So it may not be a game bug per se.

Can you play OK with others? Can he play OK with others? Ie, is the problem at his end or yours?

I played EU IV with another guy. I hosted, he joined and downloaded the save files. No problems. No issues ingame. Even the guy I experienced the mp problems, I have no problem playing with - no sync problems or something else. We tried Vicky 2 and HoI III aswell. No problems at all. That's what confuses me...

I reinstalled EU IV, deleted every file (including registry entry) and he did the same. We'll try again next week. I'm gonna tell you, if something worked.

Believe me, I was sure the problem is on our side, but since we ran out of ideas how to fix it on our part, I tend to think, it's the game.

We tested it and it's definitly the DLCs. I can host without DLCs and he can download savegames. If I turn on one DLC only (Wealth of Nations, Res Publica), he can join, but can't download savegames. So, it is not on us, but it's a dlc-related problem

I'm not aware of any such DLC issue, especially between PCs (you haven't mentioned Macs or Linux, so I'm assuming ...). It's only major DLcs, not say music or unit packs?

But do either or both of you get that same DLC issue with other players?

Yes, it's between PCs. Well, I never had problems before, despite the fact that they didn't have the same dlcs either.

The guy I play with now has never played with another guy. He just bought it. It's still weird that we only have problems, if DLCs are on. We didn't try it with flavour dlcs though, only gameplay DLCs. I tested with no dlcs, with Wealth of nations and with Res Publica. I'll try tomorrow with some flavour DLC activated.

No DLCs = works just fine

Wealth of Nations = can't load savegame

Res Publica = can't load savegame

Random flavour DLC = ???

If he's the host, it doesn't matter that I have all DLCs activated though. I can load his games and everything's just fine.

That's not supposed to happen though - the host's DLC are available to all. And that's how it used to work for you, from what you say.

What I'm trying to elucidate is whether the issue is at his end or yours. If he, with no DLCs, plays with someone else (not you) as host who has DLCs, does he still get these issues? If you host someone else (not him) who turns off all their DLCs, does the problem still happen?

Once we pin down who has the problem, we can perhaps focus in on what the problem is, what might be causing it.

Thanks for your help so far! Especially thanks for your patience. I'm gonna try it with another friend of mine in a couple of days. I'll tell about it here.

Are there any known issues with Bitdefender or Avira?


Edit: It didn't work with flavour DLC "Native Americans Unit Pack" either.
