Multiplayer problem

Hello,
I have ck2 since 3 weeks, and i really love this game. I want to play multiplayer with my friend who has non-steam version ( He bought the game 3 years ago in shop ). It is possible to play togheter?

If he got the game from a store, it should have a code. With that code he can add the game to his paradox account.
Once that's done, synchronize the paradox account with the steam acount and it should apear in Steam.

[if not mistaken, with Stellaris worked that way... so probably is the same here]
