How many people are realistically going to be able to play Rome MP? It looks to me like there are only 5 powers (Rome, Carthage and the 3 Alexandrian successors) that will be playable in MP.

That's about it for the earliest start date.
We've discussed having players step in during Civil Wars to expand the field, but otherwise it'll likely require a map expansion and earlier start date to get more.
Normally in MP it is impolite to annex someone so as Johan says, you could play as a Gaulic tribe and still have a successful game (though you might be rome's or carthage's vassal). The Arch Mede said:How many people are realistically going to be able to play Rome MP? I was was responsible for the march to Spain while my colleague was trying to do naval invasions of the Carthagian heartland. It was was quite cool.
