I've read the IP/server number issue, and that is not my problem - THAT I KNOW OF.

I currently use wireless on my laptop at home, and have the issue of playing games via IP all of the time. When I plug in directly to the modem, I do not have this problem. It is only via wireless, which if I understand Google correctly, that is because I have not opened ports.. etc.

I have no idea how to do this, even after ready.

I have this issue with a few other games I play with my brother occasionally. I prefer not to plug directly into my modem, as we connect it to the router which controls a lot of other things.

Could someone explain to me how to get around the generic IP address that shows up from my router, and how to open ports for EUIV to be able to play multiplayer by using my router?

If you need more information, or am not using the proper terms, please let me know.

Thanks.

The game itself needs no special ports open in your firewall, but Steam does - see the Steam Client section here
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=8571-GLVN-8711

We can't give tutorials on how to open ports in your firewalls, because a/ we don't know which one or ones you have and b/ there are hundreds of them, all different. Here's the one for Windows' own firewall for instance
windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/open-port-windows-firewall
But if you have firewalls in your router, you'd need to consult its manual or website.
