[Multiplayer, Crash] Erro: Missing Button 'host_savegame' in window 'matchmaking_servers_window'

Hi guys,
my game always crashes in multi-player mode. the game starts and everything works fine up to an random date when it crashes. The following error is recorded in the log files/error.txt

[fixedwindow.cpp:2961]: interface/matchmaking.gui: Missing Button 'host_savegame' in window 'matchmaking_servers_window'.
[fixedwindow.cpp:2961]: interface/matchmaking.gui: Missing Button 'quick_refresh' in window 'matchmaking_servers_window'.

Would be nice to fix it.

Many of those errors in that log are cosmetic. But you could try a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox/EU4 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add EU4.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test with a new campaign - NOT by loading any existing one

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again.

Done it!!
But it crashes in singleplayer, now.
It's still unplayable in mulitplayer and now even in single player.
i attach the last error file.

Those new errors really look like a bad installation or a mod problem. Are there any mods in use here?

nope no mods here,
i will try a new installation again.

after two new installations other errors pop up.
these are like something is missing...
for example:
missing icon ....
missing button...
missing InstantTextBox...

i attach the log/error.txt file from the last crash
the installations are always super clean installations
the whole thread started after a multiplayer session
before this the game works fine in singleplayer this was around new year

I get a handful of similar - but different! - errors in my log, but nothing like that long list!

In your clean installs did you make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam EU4 or Documents EU4 locations, before installing again?

There are no folders left from this game....
I install it again, yesterday.
New Try same result.
New Errros.

I just noticed some of the lines there start with [ck2text.cpp:267] ... ! What has CK2 got to do with this I do not know!

Do you have access to any other computer to do a test run of this game MP on?

I had a look at your error messages. They seem normal. I get all the messages from your various log files if I start a new unmodded game and click through every menu and let the game run for a bit. But I don't get any crashes, so I think that they are unrelated. The ck2text.cpp messages appear if I play the game in german. I think they are a bug in the german translation of the event new_court_flavour_events.35. If it happens for the player, it is missing at least one word, but it doesn't cause any crash for me.
@AndrewT : ck2text.cpp is just the name of the source code file which generates that error message. I guess it was originally written for ck2 and then used in eu4 as well. I opened my eu4 executable in a text editor and found the reference to the file along with the template for the "Unknown text property" error message in there.

Whatever is causing the crash is not causing any messages in error.log, Unfortunately it is quite common for crashes during gameplay, because they happen before the game can log about it.
Do you get a crash reporter and does it create a folder in "Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/crashes/"? If it does, can you attach the files from that folder here? They might at least allow us to determine if the crash happens in eu4 or in a graphics driver.
The output from dxdiag might also be helpful(ideally you run it after you got a crash):

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

If you get a crash in single player and then reload the last autosave, does it crash again on the same date? If it does, can you attach a save from just before the crash?

ok... after another installation an again a crash
the whole crash folder under the Paradox Interactive path plus the lastest dxdiag
it crashed in singlemode not at the same date. totally different dates at crashes

The exception.txt shows that the crash happens in "igdumdim64.dll" which gets called from "d3d9.dll". The second dll is from directx. I googled the first one and it seems that it is part of the intel graphics driver. So I think that it is a problem with the drivers. Maybe reinstalling the drivers or installing a new version might help. I found this intel download page which contains drivers which are newer than the ones you have installed(according to the dxdiag output).

Maybe @AndrewT has some recommendations about how to clean reinstall the drivers.

That dxdiag.txt shows both texmaker.exe and thunderbird.exe also crashing in that Intel video driver, so either it or the video hardware are the problem here I'm sure.

Go to the Dell support site, or Intel

Download Intel Drivers and Software

Download new and previously released drivers including support software, bios, utilities, firmware and patches for Intel products.

downloadcenter.intel.com

and get the latest driver for that XE video system (hopefully a newer one that you have now), but don't install it yet.

Uninstall the existing video driver and reboot. THEN install the new one and reboot again.

Still the same crash in that Intel video driver I'm afraid! And still in multiple applications too.

I'm undecided whether this is a Windows, driver or hardware fault. I assume this machine is still under warranty?

Our similar game Crusader kings 2 is free to play on Steam now. Does it have the same problem for you?
