Could someone from Paradox answer this question? If I buy the German language version, can I play that multiplayer against someone with the English or Swedish versions?

Also what is the connection required to be able to play the multiplayer game? Will 56k modems do ok, or do you really need cable modems or other faster connections like that?

Thanks in advance.

Oh yes, an answer to these questions would be very nice indeed. Especially since I already challenged a few people on this board to a life-or-death struggle in a multiplayer game. How about you Count_M? Care to be yet another victim of the Danish armies and navies? :))

Wow, 64 kB/sec - is that really correct? I've never heard (until now...) about a game that needed more than 20 kB/sec.

Assuming that the game really uses 64 kB/sec it will probably be nearly impossible to play a game on the Internet without somebody experiencing serious lag. How is that handled? Does the game slow down for everybody or will it only be the person with the not-perfect connection that will feel the problems?

Also, does the network speed requirement change when you change the game speed? I mean, if the game needs 64 kB/sec when running at 1 min = 6 month perhaps you have made the game so it need less bandwidth when running slower (like 5 min = 1 month).

No, it doesn't really use all that. In theory it could be run on a 56k modem, but the architecture of the internet makes it soo laggy that it is practically unplayable.

Unless its the host that lags there should not be any spread lag.

Yep, if you play at a slower speed, then there is a lot less data to transfer each second.

So multiplayer games between different language versions IS possible. Thanks guys. You are luverly :)

As for the high speed data connection, that is necessary, I consider it a small price to pay for world domination. (Reaching for phone to call Internet provider...)

The best affordable connection I can get where I am is going to be a DSL connection with around 750k download and 128k upload speeds. If I and my friends all have basically this type of connection, will EU playwell on multiplayer at the highest speed settings? Will it play well at any speed settings? What speed would be about the maximum you think would work for this connection and have no lag?

Yep it probably would, I don't know for sure 'til I've got some answers from Paradox in another thread. But my theory for what I've read is, all information has to go through the server, that also calculates all wars and things that two players are involved in, it also has to register and distribute all information for all other players, ie the movements and so on. That means that if she server lacks bandwith the game will be _very_ laggy.

Conclution from what I've read, it's higly possible that I've missed something, the main picture should be correct, but then somone can correct me if I'm totally wrong. :)

Can't wait til they get PC:s at school, can hardley imagine that Paradox will do a port to DEC/Alpha, then will we be able to put up servers on our double 155 MBit conn =)

Our 2 MBit here is not enough after a while, its hard when you get used to fast conns, just makes you spoiled.

/Gryphon, wishing his 2Mbit were atleast 10Mbit

As for the money it would cost somwhere 16.000 Skr (Swedish Krowns), for you americans thats about 1600 USD, but since the dollar went ballistic it will probably be a couple of thousand SKr more. So we will have to have a chat abot that one... But do I want it??? Yes I do!!

Here's a related Q: If players with different language versions can play eachother on the internet, AND different language versions have different playable states (some have Habsburg, other Sweden, others Denmark, etc) in the Grand Campaign, does this mean that only those states playable on the host will be available for internet play? This would mean Sweden and Denmark could never play together on the internet, which would probably upset a LOT of people. :D
