Basically a multiplayer game that takes place over several planets (you can set them up in the lobby) at the end of each planet you get to keep some things of your choice, maybe you want some techs or some units or a hero or some items, what you keep depends on how well you did. Other than that everyone starts over on the next planet. So its kind of a mini series/tournament/multiplayer campaign that might be kind of fun. Maybe a small series of small planets and intense Battle mode for example.

Great idea, i would love to play this (we still PBEM each day). Just found the thread by chance. IMHO it is still interesting so forgive me to revive it ;)

While interesting, games generally last to long already, and getting multiple people to play consecutive games with eachother will likely see this not being used much.

I think it's really cool though, and think there's a way to make it work in a slightly altered way; Having the early maps be smaller, and letting you take all the research and the like with you to the new maps, maybe even allied factions that you build relations with.

However, there's also an objective in these early maps which you have to fight your way to, ending that map in a win for the player taking it for X turns, or until X turns total pass in a draw.

That way you have multiple short skirmishes with each player trying to balance developing their advantage for the next maps or trying to win the early maps.

I am looking at it from an coop perspective. It doesn't matter how long those games take when you coop via PBEM. We are still playing that way and enjoy it.

I'm reminded of that "War for the Ring" mode in Battle for middle earth. It was like a global conquest type thing where the world was broken up into sectors, and it was a turn based overmap with builders and Heroes and you constructed stuff and took over places, any if you encountered enemies it'd go into that sectors map and take place as a real time strategy fight (or just a fight between the forces you had but you still control them even if there are no buildings) so it was a mega campaign that could have dozens of skirmishes

Hm.

Overworld space map with multiple planets, each turn is resolved simultaneously. You can send colonizers, resources, and units to another planet every turn, each taking one "slot". The further away a planet is, the fewer slots you have. You can build things to make travel fast, produce extra units, or research during the overworld turns as well. A skirmish is initiated when what you send over to a planet encounters an established colony of the enemy player, or if multiple players send units over to an unsettled planet.

Options to scale the number of players, planets, and map(planet) size can be used to adjust the length of the campaign.
