Well I use imageshack and it sure seems a lot more friendly. I went to your link and fished about and it crashed my browser to the desktop hard taking with other open files in that browser.

I used to use freeimagehosting, now I will use this

You clicked on the lightmap link and it crashed everything?

No not until I got that site and tried to view the picture which I thought you had posted, the file name was there, but instead I ended up with them directing me to another page for a 'free signup' and when I tried to back out it crashed.

Could somebody do an experiment and find out if it is allowed to increase the height or width of map\tiles.bmp by multiples of 32 pixels, please.

I do not believe I understand enough to check such a thing? Could you elaborate in detail?

Never mind, I tested it and it works.

ATTENTION

I am fairly confident that I can now edit the river overlay at will. This will not modify the lower map, but it will allow you change what rivers look like, and add other design elements too, like labels (though you still cannot change the current labels). Is there any interest in this, or should I finish figuring out lightmaps?

Also, I have heard rumors that adjacent.tbl and navaldist.tbl are recreated by the game sometimes. Could somebody confirm or deny?

navaldist.tbl is (re)created by the game if it is missing or if you change any of the port locations/sea zone links in game. It takes quite a while to (re)generate this file (as it is 8MB or so in size) on a slow machine, and the game will appear "frozen" until it finishes doing so, but it will only do it once after the changes. Thereafter (unless you make more such changes, of course) it uses the new file it has created.

Can't help you re adjacent.tbl, however - never tried deleting it to see if it gets recreated.

When I renamed navaldist.tbl, my game froze, and cpu was at 50%. I assume that the game was recreating it.

When I renamed adjacent.tbl, the game asked for the latest milestone. But since adjacent.tbl contains connections, do you think that modifying adj-defs.csv would remake adjacent.tbl?

If up to me i prefere you focus on lightmaps. Specifically editing the province names on the map, since there are some that has typoes or just plain wrong.

Navaldistance.tbl also has a few bugs, so ability to edit the navaldistances would be nice.

Most interesting, why do you suppose there is so 'noise' on the borders?

Those are errors. I still do not what causes them. Once I figure that out, I'm almost finished.

-------------------------------------

From my calculations, a bitmap of the whole image will be over a gigabyte.

The number of 32x32 blocks on the map is, on the largest zoom, 936x360. This is too cumbersome to edit, and will probably throw an out of memory exception.

Do people want to work with 36x36 bitmaps (that is (36*32)x(36*32)) or 72x72 bitmaps?

If 36, there will need to be 10*26 bitmaps, if 72, 5*13 bitmaps.

For the coloring of the bitmap:
The red and blue values should be the ID, the green value should be from 0 to 63, which will be how much to go into colorscales (the numbers on right)

Or have two bitmaps, one for owner Id and one for grayscale

So these can work like opac layering?

Some of your questions are yet too technical or I do not have sufficient reference to make a goodly opinion.

On the aside can you modify 'zoom out' of the existing map?

Will it be feasable to 'rename' provinces as found on the map or can they simply be all erased so they will not ever be a issue for modding in other names in the data files?
