Well it works.Once the English have busily upgraded their colonies to cities they will part company with them under duress.I think in the fullness of time I will attack them elswhere , North America as Nebikadnezar has suggested.

You don't get a bonus to your chances of colonization. A Shipyard provides you with another colonist per year. If you're referring to the mouse-hovering over the # of colonists: be patient, takes some time (1 year iirc) for the game to recognize it

Curses.I was labouring under the impression that the shipyard would increase my % chance in a province of successful colonisation.Oh well , I suppose I will now have a lot more poor saps to send of to the back of beyond with a machete and a bag of grain seed.
Hopefully by the time the English are down to one city in India, they'll have another close enough to use as a second - for instance in East or South Africa, Indonesia, Australia, somewhere like that.
