Is there a doctrine that reduces, or removes, the penalty when fighting in mud? Or an infantry level? Or does the AI not pay this penalty.

I ask because, as the USSR, I always get a -70 to my attack efficiency when attacking in mud. Yet, I've noticed the Germans do not seem to have this problem. I look at their stats and they don't have the penalty.

Secondly, one major problem I'm having with DD that I didn't have before is a problem pushing the Germans back. Believe it or not it's 1946 and I'm struggling. What happens more often than not is I try to do an encirclement. I attack the key province necessary for the breakout with more than enough divisions. I win the battle, but it takes so long for my units to get there that by the time they do, their org is so low, they get defeated immediately by a reserve German army. This is happening constantly and not in the low infra steppes but right outside Poland. :(

Anyone else seeing more of this than before?

Yes, because the AI's better ;)

Mus slows you down, so it's difficult to fight a war of maneuver in Western Russia/Eastern Poland for several months of the year.

Apart from that, the answer is more troops and more attacks. Attack in considerable strength across a broad front and don't commit your armour until there is a sign that their reserves have been exhausted.

Obviously, make sure your spearhead troops have offensive supply, to keep their speed up.

You can by changing the modifiers file. Paradox\Doomsday\Db\units. I have changed the night modifier to both Att and Def to 80% and it is working like a charm.

I have been experiencing difficulties in taking new territories as well. Be sure that you select sycronize arrival. Also try to attack the provinces which are attacking you. This will weaken the German attack of new aquired provinces

Theres the chance that you are attacking a muddy province from a not-muddy province, so the german's dont get any penalty for attacking you since terrain modifiers apply to the defending person's province.

What difficulty level are you playing on?

In a normal SU game, I built 75 factories (3 rounds of 25) and then lots and lots of plain inf. Then it was wave after wave of primarily infantry attacks which resulted in Germany surrendering via event in late December 1941 after a 22 JUN 41 start to their Barbarossa.

I did the purges and then built some more HQ. I ended up including HQ with some Old Guard Generals in the same formation ( 8 inf with HQ ) and then just kept on attacking as much as possible. I got Romania as a puppet via event within a month, annexed Bulgaria a month later, Hungary soon after that, and took Berlin in mid September. I stopped building infantry when I got to 400.

Other forces were 6 cav+arty, 12 mountain div, starting 15 motor inf div, and 16 armor plus 8 CAS stacks. Had interceptors but never used them as the German air force was gone by then due to the AI organization parameter SNAFU.
