MP game speed and other newb questions

Just got this game and haven't played MP yet, but I figure pretty soon. How do y'all deal with the game speed issue in MP?

Also, can you play MP via direct connect, or do you have to go through the matchmaker (VNet do they call it?)?

Also, if I want to play with one of my buddies, what are 2 good countries for us to play against each other? Cooperatively? He's probably a bit more experienced than I, so a slight mismatch isn't so bad, if you let me know who's stronger.

We adjust game speed during the game. Whatever the damand is - faster in peace time, slower during war time. Direct connection is possible.

A good two player game is Germany / SU. IMHO if you start in '36 Germany has a better chance and you need to set up some rules (e.g. no annexing of US), while in '39 SU has a better chance (not really sure).

For cooperative gameplay I would recommend playing two minors, for instance Rumania and Poland.

I'd wait what changes 1.04 bring anyways - MP should be improved a lot. I think a very interesting thing could also a Germany vs USA game be in the long run.

Besides that I'd also rate the balcan countries as a good play when coop playing - or you can try out the Stony MP scenarios
