Hey there,

Hope you guys are up for a great mp-game.My suggestion is to do the GC with all nations.Lets meet on a weekly basis and get it going.

If we cant get enough players at first game nite lets do a shorter scenario and the winner may chose his country in the GC first.

Besides is it possible to let players enter an existing, saved mp game?like you have Spain, france, russia and now a new player wants to join as poland in the next session..???????

Paradox has found a very nice solution: When loading a multiplayer game players can choose whatever country they want to play. However, the country a player had when saving the game is already highlighted (in case you can't remember what country you had)and before the game starts all players are able to see what the other players have chosen. Humans and computers can therefore be exchanged as needed (which means that we can decide on a specific day(s) each week/month and if a player are unable to play a certain day the computer will control his country).

If you try and load the game (any game for that matter) as a single player you're only able to select the country you controlled when the game was saved.

PS. I might be interested in a large GC-game but before I commit myself to such a game we better agree on what settings we play with (or more precise: the speed of the game). Perhaps we should arrange an IRC chat with those interested?

sirst of all thanks for your help on answering my question.

now to the GC-Game:

at the moment i have to interested players besides me,both of you are stated the time question.

here my idea:-we play with 1 min= 1month/or 2 months

this should be the best mix for all kind of players(real-time and turn-based).you will have enough time to develop your country, but as soon as a war is declared on you,you will have the good feeling of stress :)

i suggest to use the pause function only when a player gets lost or if 2 countries at war wish to take up official negotiations.

for example:russia vs poland
-both demand a cease fire
-england offers to lead the negotiations

a channel is setup(icq/ingame/mail/battlecom/etc)
they agree on:kursk to russia and poland declares that they hold no interest in the Khanates and accept it as russian area of interest.
-now the treaty will be made official
and he game may continue

like this we could get better diplomacy results.......

but i agree that the group should discuss it b4 the game starts.I think it would be best if we meet on a weekly basis, but that of course also depends on the players.

Hope to hear from you,

La Solus

In the two-person multiplayer game I'm participating in we're playing with 1 min = 1 month and I think we should use that. Although the game feels slow at times you never know when the other player(s) need the extra time to think (or yourself...). I rather be a little bored a times (normally I just watch TV or read a book) than feeling I'm losing because I don't have the time to think things through.

Personally I don't think we should allow pauses. If a player loses connection we have to save and restart anyway (if a player continues to lose his connection I think we should decide upon letting an AI control his country that day).

As for diplomacy I don't think we should pause the game when people want to talk. After all, if we get eight people together to play the game will be paused a lot if we do that every time two of those players need to talk (whatever the reason). With 1 min = 1 month I believe the game is slow enough to let people communicate as much as they want (using whatever program they like).

As for how often we play I guess it would be easiest to say something like: Five hours every sunday. People have 15 min to join the game before it starts and then we just play the agreed number of hours. If somebody doesn't show up or in advanced has said he can't participate that day, the AI controls his country.

yes i agree with your comment that 1=1 timescale shd be enough for players to deal with diplomatic affairs.(tell me when you start reading books,my generals will be instructed to start their offense then :))

Also i think meeting every sunday and playing for about 5 hours is a good idea.
Another player just mailed me,looks like we are already half way through(4players now).

One thing we have to sort out is the timezone:

I am in Germany,i could play sundays from 11 in the morning to 8 in the evening.

I will try to setup a ICQ-chat on this weekend(ill post the number, havent icq on this pc).

Maybe it would be a good idea to already chose a country(or we do a little tournament but this would take ages again)

I wd like to play France or Russia but i dont mind playing any country as long as we get all countries to take part.

If you wish i could also change a scenario...
Maybe you wish to play Bavaria,Hungary or something else......simply let me know and ill change it :)

Heh, the time zone won't be a problem then as I live in Denmark. :) As for how long to play each Sunday (if we choose Sunday...) I think we should limit the play to around 5 hours. Every player will probably experience one or two days where he (she?) can't participate - at least I know that I can't promise I'll keep the next 9-10 Sundays free. If we play too long each Sunday temporarely missing players will miss a lot of play-time. I rather play for a few more weeks than to risk people leaving the game due to them feeling that too much has happened since they last participated.

Ok, but I think we should wait until the next patch is ready. It is actually rather irritating to play Turkey and not be able to demand a good peace from other Islamic countries (due to the 'religion conversion' bug).

I think we should stick with the original major countries for now. At least they have been play-tested to ensure they're balanced correctly. :)

As for which country I would like to play - it doesn't matter much to me. I rather enjoy taking what's left when others have picked their countries and then work from there. Makes it more of a 'random' choice for me. :)

one question ahead....how do i use sentences from a post that was stated earlier into my new post????

Hey you are right its fun to play every country.I think they all have their cons and pros and all offer(the major ones!)the possibility to win.

What i like about Russia is their ability to raise huge armies and if they are attacked they may retreat and let the winter do his bloody work for them.

If you enjoy more political games i think Austria-Hungary is the perfect starting option. Its pretty easy to start a strong alliance with a few minor german kingdoms and maybe if you are lucky also with one or two italians states.

I am still testing the countries but i think France is the best mix.

But as you said:take whats left and accept the challenge....

Hy Kdp,

I think 5 hours is quite a long time but we should try and test it.I agrre its better to have more sessions than having unhappy players.....

At the moment we just have 4 players(if they all come),so we may already start if no one wishes to play the Ottoman Empire.
To be honest i had only one mp-EU-game so far,so i am eager to play. But due to the fact we still have 4 open places it could be a good idea to wait to fill up the roster.

Another point that could be quite interesting is writing an AAR.Everyone could write a short AAR after every session and mail it to me,and i prepare the complete thing. What do you think about it?

Greetings,

Altough I am just about to order the game, (and will need a long learning time, as I can't speak German), I am wondering, how fast connection do you need for online play? Is 3,6K enough?

Please let me know.

Thanks!

Hello all,

Crusader, it was a nice game last sunday, but there was a serious chat/crash bug... I described it in ./FAQ thread 'console'.

We had one modem and the others had ISDN, but no connection or lag problems ( played at 1min/1month)

For those, who can read german there´s a AAR in the unofficial german EU-Forum (Theme 'Multiplayer') http://pub15.ezboard.com/beuropauniversalisforum

Only reached the year 1510, so the way of history isnt sure yet.

btw. I wrote my russian AAR in german only, because my english isnt good enough to narrate about this epic, glorious russian story :)

Greetings
Gan.

Huh? I thought you didn't play last sunday. I tried to connect but I found no game. Hmmm, perhaps my attempts at fixing the problems I had with the old 1.02 patch had something to do with that....

All who like are invited to visit our game on sunday (12.11.)

The major powers with AI done very well, so it would be no problem to start with one of them ! ;)

@kdp -> there are sometimes little connection problems to join the host in the beginning. I had to try it several times before I joined.
( And I cursed 'La Solus' in the meantime, because I thought he didn´t host the game ;)

Hope to see some of you,
Greetings Gan.
