Simple question. When do you move it? As France, should you move your capital out of Paris and into Holland? Is that beneficial? Is the bonus from trade better than the bonus for having your capital in such a large base tax? As Austria should you move your capital "upstream" to something where you can pull more trade too? If you conquer Netherlands as Denmark, do you move your capital to Antwerpen node or keep it in Lubeck? And what if you play a Colonial Denmark? Should you move your capital to London (if you conquer it), or do you keep it in Lubeck? What is some advice on when to move you capital, not just "if it's in a dangerous position."

Also, as France you need Île de France as your capital, to get the following
Code:
Move Court to Versailles:
Potential:

Country is France
Doesn't have the country flag versailles_court
Capital is Île-de-France
Has the monarchy government type
Allow:

Has completed the Economic Ideas idea group
Administrative technology is at least 16
Effect:

Sets the country flag versailles_court
Gives 33 prestige
Île-de-France:
Gains 2 base tax
Code:
The Royal Musketeers
Trigger:

Country is France
Has the monarchy government type
Has at least 300 ducats in the treasury
Île-de-France:
Controlled by France
The province is owned by France
The province is the capital of the country
The province is not under siege
Does not have the province modifier "Mousquetaires du Roi"
Is not in regency
Ruler's military skill is at least 6
Administrative technology is at least 25
Year is at least 1600
Is not a vassal
Does not have the country modifier "fra_musketeers_timer"
Mean time to happen

Base mean time to happen of 200 months
Immediate effects:

Hidden effect:
Adds the modifier "fra_musketeers_timer" for 50 years:
No effects
Option: A splendid idea!:

Changes treasury by -300 ducats
Île-de-France:
Adds the modifier "Mousquetaires du Roi" for 100 years:
+25% manpower modifier
+10% fort defense modifier
+10% garrison growth
Option: I’d rather keep the money:
I agree it's not overwhelming, but having the French capital outside of Île de France is almost offensive ;)

In most games it seems like Antwerp and Lubeck are the wealthiest trade nodes, so if you were going to move your capital, those would be the ones to move it to. What I never understood is moving your capital to a more safe location, because capitals can almost never be taken in peace deals anyway.

I thought about moving my capital to the baltic trade node as russia as its downstream from novgorod. However as i'm very behind on diplo tech i think it may just allow other baltic nations to steal more of my trade.

Also it doesn't feel right to have russias capital in finland or the baltic states

The real problem is if you want to move it to Venice or Antwerpen after you unify HRE :p

No seriously. As of now [1.5 ] you move your capital to the endnode and grab all provinces there + navy so you can get 95% of money you steer. BUT if you cant get as much money from the new trade center dont move it. It's a simple calculation. Whether you want 95% of bordeaux trade or 45% of bordeaux + antwerpen.

Actually I'm playing a netherlands game right now. After I creater netherlands I sold all my dutch provinces to neighbours/vassals, left the empire and moved my capital to Stadacona. Which is actually upstream;p This proved very beneficial for me ( no colonial nations, closer distances, no WETN, no land wars with european powers, easy picking natives around)

In most games it seems like Antwerp and Lubeck are the wealthiest trade nodes, so if you were going to move your capital, those would be the ones to move it to. What I never understood is moving your capital to a more safe location, because capitals can almost never be taken in peace deals anyway.

if you decide to abandon defences i you capital you get negative war score, war exhaustion and loose benefits of unique buildings which are usully there
