Very excited about Wiz working on Stellaris. That game is going to slay the genre.

Fine with me, last decent strategy games for the genre were Homeworld and Master of Orion 2... Distant Worlds felt meh for me and Sins of a Solar Empire was marketed as 4X when it was actually an RTS...

Through there is the W40K Battlefleet Gothic game coming.

Thank you for all of your work, both with the game itself as a the lead developer, but also here on the forums interacting with the community. All of the projects at PDS you have worked on seem to have turned out to be really enjoyable, from your mods to the actual games, so I'm looking forward to play around with the final changes you made to EU4, HoI4, Stellaris and your future project, which I would assume might be related to a Victoria 3.

Guys guys, Rome 2 or Vic 3 are too obvious. I think he's making Cities: Skylines 2 where you can extend your city by crushing neighbouring cities instead of buying virgin land. :p

... Three knocks on the door. The governor was too occupied with the paperwork of managing the provinces of Hungary to listen to the small noise. He took a big bite from the bread which he had as his poor lunch only to tun his attention back to the papers. King Wiz had ordered to develop Pest with two extra units of base tax, but the necessary administrative power didn't arrive in time so they were behind schedule.

The knocking started again. This time however the governor heard it. "Oh my!" he thought "If this is the inspector, I'm doomed!" He stood up from his big and rather comfortable armchair which he had bought in Stockholm last year and walked really slowly to the door. He didn't dare to open it. Another three knocks. "It's now or never!" he thought as he opened the door.

"M'lord!" shouted the courier boy "I have a message for you from King Wiz himself!"
"From... from the king?" asked the governor. He was scared.
"Yes m'lord" the boy answered. He gave the letter to the shaking governor and ran off.

The man slowly closed the door. His eyes were wide open, his hands shaking as he opened the envelope. The paper was in fairly good shape considering that it came from Stockholm. The governor was afraid to read it. "There's still paperwork to be done. Surely this can wait..." But he knew it couldn't. He took a deep breath and started reading:

Well, Johan already spilled the beans in this week's dev diary, but I wanted to make a post regardless: As of this week, I will no longer be in charge of EU4. In the short term, I'll be switching to Stellaris and heading up the AI work on it, after which I'll be moving on to another assignment that I can't yet talk about (still at PDS tho). Johan will be filling in as project lead on the expansion that is currently being developed.

While EU4 is very much Johan's baby, I sort of consider it my godchild. Ever since I took the helm during Art of War's development, I've immensely enjoyed working on EU4. In addition to being one of my favorite games ever, it's also been a very interesting game to design expansions for: Handling the challenges of paid vs free, working new features into a mature and already quite complex game, and balancing the desires of the community against our own plans for the game have all been valuable experiences, and while some mistakes were made along the way, I believe that I leave the game in a very strong shape, and that it will continue to get even better with future expansions and patches.

This is not goodbye. I will continue to be involved in EU4's design (providing input and feedback) and I will no doubt continue to read and post on these forums, I just won't be handling the actual day to day development of the game. As a game developer, I've always considered it important to maintain communication with your fans: They don't always know exactly what they want, and you can never please everyone, but it's always worth listening to someone who truly cares about the game, even if you may not agree with their ideas. I've found the EU4 community full of passion and ideas, and a number of features and tweaks have come directly out of this community, features and tweaks that would never have seen the light of day if nobody was willing to listen to them. So I'll still be around, listening to to you guys and passing on any good ideas I happen to spot.

And of course, I will continue playing EU4 on my own time. After all, I still have some 93 achievements to get.

The letter fell out his hands. "Is he abdicating? Really?" He picked up the letter to read it again. "Yes, he is abdicating!" The governor just laughed at his own stupidity where he thought that he would be fired. After all, King Wiz and his parliament of the constitutional monarchy has been the best thing the world has ever seen. The governor smiled as he turned towards the general direction of Stockholm. There were tears in his eyes.

"Farewell, old friend! You'll be missed!"

Good luck for the rest of the spacetrip
