For those curious how to move in three dimensions, clicking on the move button in the unit command window and then pressing the ctrl key will allow the cursor to move along the z axis allowing you to easily navigate in three dimensions.

Didn't notice this in the tutorial or any of the pop ups so figured I'd mention it here for others who are struggling to move above/below the default plane.
