Hello, I was wondering how do you become a feudal state if you're a Merchant Republic? I managed to conquer Italy as Pisa and I'd like to become a feudal kingdom if I create Rome because I'm sick of losing the kingdom to another merchant family.
When I try to use the set_government console command it immediately goes back to Merchant Republic once it's unpaused.

Sorry if this is located somewhere but I couldn't find it.

On a related note, I did just see Pisa turn feudal by losing c_Pisa to Tuscany. I think the Doge's only other holdings were castles, so when his capital got moved he turned feudal. Is this still WAD or is it another loophole in the "Non-republican AIs cannot target titles which would wipe-out a merchant republic, although players can wipe them out as they please" that was implemented a few months ago?

I tried to do the trick where you give the heir a castle so he is feudal and then lose the election to become the heir, but it immediately turned me into a merchant republic government but with a castle instead. I couldn't declare independence, so I was back to square one.

If this works, a good way to set it up would be to ensure all demesne cities are in one de jure kingdom with at least one castle outside it, induce a merc invasion of that kingdom by banking all gold in the election fund while a hired merc is sitting in that kingdom, take back the funds, and surrender.

That would make sense, make the heir independent instead of keeping him in the kingdom. I'll have to see if that works.

With what CB did this happen? What was the war called?

There was a fix for that in a recent release for a certain class of CBs, but TBH, I don't pretend to know every which way a merchant republic will just up and break, so it's very possible that I haven't blocked all the cases which would cause that to happen. I'll inspect the code some more, though. [ It's all centralized in common/scripted_triggers/emf_cb_triggers.txt, if you want to take a look. ] Revolt-type CBs, however, are not subject to those restrictions, and all else are TMK.

EDIT: Note that if "Tuscany" was also a merchant republic, it would've been WAD.

I'll dig through my saves to pull it up, but I'm pretty sure it was a (fabricated) claim war for the county by the feudal duchess of Tuscany (HRE vassal) against independent (kingdom level) Pisa.

Ok, looks like the duchess had fabricated claims on both the county and duchy titles and was using the press all claims CB (she has unpressed strong claims prior to the war, which weren't inherited from some other source). War was called: "Toscanan War for the Repubblica di Pisa and Commune di Pisa." When Pisa lost, the Doge's capital moved to a castle in Sardinia and he turned into a feudal king with the titular Pisa title.

Thanks, I think the claim_all CB might be literally the only CB that doesn't hook into the all-CBs triggers appropriately in order to block non-republican AIs from wiping-out AI republics, as it is structured a bit differently and doesn't qualify titles in the same way that all other CBs do.

EDIT: Simple fix: https://github.com/EMFTeam/EMF/commit/b411277
