Hmmm. In XI century, the capital was where was ruler with his court. It hapenned to be Gniezno most of the time in the first half (well, it was bishopric or something like that), but it wasn't 'real' capital. In fact, it quickly lost it's postition as capital to Krakow, and even the main city of Wielkopolska became Poznan.

I don't know when it changed. Gradually, i suppose, and probably even before feudal partition. But i'm not sure. I suppose some halibutts will soon correct me

What about stability? I don't remember if there is stability like in EU and I'm too lazy to look it up. Anybody knows?

I think it changed after the Bretislav of Bohemia invasion in the middle of 11th century, when Gniezno was pillaged. The returning army of Kazimierz Odnowiciel (the Renewer ? ) settled in Krakow for good.

I'd like it. If you really covet some province..or some city, you should be able to move your court there. The Ottomans sure did. Sure, that's outside this timeframe, but.

can anyone think of a time between 1066 and 1419( or is it 53?) that some kind of battle and acquisition of territory led to the royal court being moved to this new area?

Hmm. Frederick II ruled from Sicily as opposed to Germany, didn't he? I mean he was FROM germany and spent his youth there but I read he had some dream of ruling a unified Italy from his court in Sicily.

So at the least it should be an option..

I always had this DREAM in EU1 of turning the Austrian capital to Rome. But we can't move capitals in europa universalis voluntarily and I didn't know how to edit files back then...

Well Constantinople was actually the fourth Ottoman capital, so there's an example within Crusader King's timeframe

Sögüt was the original capital, then Bursa in 1326 and later Edirne (Adrianople) in 1365---until the fall of Constantinople in 1453.

cool! so there is a lot of moving around. like I dont know what i want to do yet but i think this game will be cool. i hope it has a lot of provinces. no world conquest AARs for this one!

IIRC 1500 has been mentioned, and I thing EU2 is at 1600-1800?
