Recently, one of the Indian states managed to conquer pretty much the entire subcontinent, getting Dishonorable Bastard'ed in the process. It was the first Infamy reducing CB I had seen in a LONG time, so I felt I couldn't pass it up. The Asian religions have been hit pretty hard by the higher Infamy levels, as they don't get the cheap religious expansion of the Christians and Muslims.

I'm westernized, they're not. The war went about as you would expect. The peace deal they offered me gave me most of India, including a lot of otherwise lovely tropical provinces. I have one other tropical province, with a core, in Southeast Asia. I'm wondering if there is any reason I shouldn't move my capitol there.

So, as the title says: Is there any specific disadvantage to having your capitol in a tropical province? Is there any disadvantage to moving your capitol in general, other than the -4 stab hit?

If I recall correctly, some decisions require a capital on the European continent, but I can't recall which. You could look it up in the decision files, capital_scope=europe or something like that.

If your a large colonizer eg. Portugal moving your capitol to The Americas will net you large bonuses as the amount of tax you get for overseas provinces is slashed, even more so if theres no land connection to the capital so it makes sense economically to have your capitol where the majority of your Empire is. Tropical provinces make less money then other provinces btw.

I can't tell you whether or not to move your capitol, knowing which country you are might help, but if the majority of your country and your tax base is considered overseas moving your capitol will be quite lucrative, especially if your existng capital is not on mainland Europe, Africa or Asia.

I'm Ming. Meant to mention that. Must have taken it out when I did a quick cleanup before posting. I did mention I was in Asia though, which is main point.

I know tropical provinces make less. There is a way to get around that, unless they changed it without updating the tooltip (wouldn't put it past them). I'll give you one guess what that way is ;).

I was looking for game mechanic advice more than advice specific to my situation. I'm really just curious if there is any downside to having your capitol in a tropical province, or a downside to moving in general. No one has mentioned one, so I'm just going to assume there isn't.

Thanks for the responses.

I believe there isn't, except the usual cost of moving your capital of course. Southeast Asia, Indonesia and India will become a lot more valuable for you once you have a tropical capital.

That's why I was looking to do it. I was just wondering if there were any disadvantages to balance out all the gains. I actually went ahead and did it not long after I asked, and I haven't noticed any. I didn't have any reason to think there would be; I was just curious to know for sure. Without any it seems like kinda a no-brainer for anyone near the tropics. I will say though that the roleplayer in me rebels at having the Ming Empire ruled from North Vietnam.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the reply.

For European countries, the disadvantage is that they have to move their capital to a different continent to make it tropical. In your case your capital would remain in Asia, so no effect there.

edit: one possible effect: land connection to capital. Is that SEA province connected to the rest of your empire? The two big effects are recruitment time and naval support limit.

Tax benefits?

I read in wiki that the disadvatages for attrition are being lost if you move your provice in a tropical region.

Do the disadvatages for for taxation and census taxes get lost as well?

Moreover.... if you build a war college or admirarly before you move your capital.... can you build a second one? Or a third one? Do their effects stack up?

I think they should.

I think the game will delete the war college/admiralty in the first capital. I once modded an ongoing game to make those inflation-reducing buildings capital-only, and all but one of them went *poof* when I restarted.

Ok I think I've got everything now. Really the only disadvantage is cutting yourself off from the heart of your territory. It's a no-brainer if that doesn't apply to you, as tropical nations don't receive any specific penalties to balance their gains. That's why I was wondering if I was missing something, as it seemed like such an obvious choice otherwise.

On a side note: I actually played a whole game AS India before I learned about that.

Again, thanks all very much for the help.

Really should be the other way around. A nation with a capital in a tropical province ought to try to move it from there when they have the ability to do so...

Either this, or the "benefits" from having your capital in a tropical province should be connected to culture.
Or the benefit should be tied to the percentage of tropical provinces in your country rather than the location of your capital.
