Is there a way to edit the movement speed of armies and navies? It just seems to take longer than it would have historically to move.

While it may seem long, consider the logistics of moving such a large number of men; it's difficult to keep such a large number of people organized, moving at a consistent pace, and accounting for individual conditions that may force some to move at a slower pace. Also consider how these aren't always professional forces, even when we're considering heavy infantry; in such cases, patchy training can lower movement speed further.

There's also the matter of provisions and equipment; if you're not taking them with you, you're forced to forage, which is an (often great) amount of time spent not marching, and may leave many of your men going hungry regardless, which in turn slows you further because hungry men don't march effectively; if you're organizing a supply train, you can't safely outpace it in most circumstances; and if you're having them carry everything themselves, you're slowing them down further with the additional weight.

An additional national idea that supports faster marching is likely in order, or a second level of roads, but the base army speed seems reasonable enough to me.

I wonder, is it be possible to give an army leader a working character trait that would allow the army to move faster?

Extremely doubtful...I've never seen an applicable (i.e. scripted) movement_speed modifier in EU3 or EU:Rome. I certainly would have used it if there was.

There is a movement speed modifier, but it applies to provinces, not characters.

You can see it in the buildings.txt as it's one of the effects of roads.

I am planning on giving provinces modifiers to movement speed based on their civ value by event. However, not entirley sure that will work.

Thanks, I couldn't find it. I was looking in the wrong place.

One more question for anyone that might know. If I change these, and then install a mod that has speed increased will that increase the speed even more? For example, I have downloaded a few mods, and Rome Enhanced has faster movement, about double troop speeds, if I double the troop speeds in this file, will Rome Enhanced effectively quadruple troop speeds? I would try it out, but I am at work for the next 8 hours and can't play here unfortunately.

I also think it would be nice to have a diminishing speed for larger forces. A force of 5,000 men would move faster than 20,000, less food would be needed, less time spend hunting or foraging. Also province population should make a difference. A largely populated province would have more towns and larger town able to give more food, and better food speeding travel time.
