I think we are missing the point here.
In Europa Universalis we are a country, not a monarch or a dynasty, like in Crusader Kings.
So its weird to become another country while leaving your country behind.
The only reason its done for vassal releasing or colony releasing is because you would generally be worse off.
Switching from Netherlands to play as England/Britain and making netherlands a minor is weird. It gives you a massive advantage instead of a disadvantage. Likewise for many others.
In history it happened, but not in the way it makes sense in EU4.
That is partially true, but do you ever feel that the game, for as most as it may be a grand strategy game, has completely irrelevant monarchs?
On occasion it is nice to be reminded that sometimes great people changed History, which is more than just a few monarch points and what not that you will completely forget about six hours later. Grand strategy or not, giving a bit of personality to the game does not hurt, does it?
But about switching from Dutch to British, maybe you might have wanted that from start and played 200 or so years hoping your plans would come to fruition and be in charge of a usually always strong Britain and the Netherlands that you expanded and strengthened the best you could? Now, THAT is some grand strategy that makes you feel inside the minds of Caesar, Machiavelli or Napoleon. I really subscribe to that idea.
Also,
controversial opinion, sometimes I feel the game brings way too much from the High Middle Ages and the Second Industrial Revolution to it, and ends ignoring some of the most interesting parts and bits from the actual period, alternate History or not.
