The title says it. Give the possibility to move capital to the default capital even if it is on another continent. If not you can get the situation where countries like Armenia can't move their capital. In the example of Armenia you can't move the capital from Samtckhe to Yeravan even if they are bordering each other.

I have to say its a shame that I think so but I kind of disagree, It feels cruel to attack countries on the borders but I think it would be too exploitable otherwise.

Portugal did move their capital to brazil. For a while during the napoleonic wars (as far as I remember).

Perhaps we can restrict capital movement to either a province on the same continent, or a province with a land connection to the current capital but with some distance restriction.

You already can move to another continent, if you only have one province on the previous one.
But moving your capital across to another continent I feel should only be able to happen during a disaster.

Your mainland is being overtaken by rebels. They're coming for the capital. For the safety of the king and advisors, they have to move. But where?
Overseas or to the neighboring continent, of course!

How about you can move it if a certain proportion of your provinces on the capitals provinces are occupied. I'm guessign the king of portugal didn't move to brazil because he prefered the climate.

There should be some leeway here. The Asia-Europe border cuts through the middle of a number of states (e.g. Kazan, Mamlukes) or through likely expansion areas (e.g. Nogai historically fought with the Golden Horde and a successful Nogai may well end up in a position like that of the Golden Horde or Crimea which leads to sillyness as its capital is locked in the east). If the Mamelukes lose all but two of their African holdings to the Berbers/Ethiopia and get clipped at Gaza so they have only two provinces left in Africa, they should move their capitol to someplace more secure.

Portugal moving their court to Brazil comes to mind...
It would be neat if Portugal got a late-game ability to tag-switch to Portugal Brazil (or just Brazil) and gain the Empire rank.

Otherwise, changing capital province to another continent should work on the basis of distant overseas. If the province isn't distant overseas, they can place the capital.

Perhaps they should get a decision that folds brazil's territory back under them and make them an empire, but leading to an event where brazil tries to declare indapendence.

maybe a nation decision to relocate your government to one of your colonies during a war when you're at around -95% warscore or something.

this will result in your opponent getting 100% and brokering full annexation/spiting your lands among his allies/returning cores/releasing nations/whatever is appropriate to the type of war you where fighting.

you keep any army or navy forces you had, in addition to what your colonial nation had when you took over, where you disband or relocate them to your new home as you see fit.
the hit you take in stability, diplomatic reputation, and opinion with any colonies or vassals that you didn't lose during the peace deal will be devastating, but it's better than game over.

there should also be an option to reintegrate colonies that you share borders with.

Portugal moved it's capital to brazil when it was invaded by the french armies, the country officially became the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves (not an empire). I think the best way to represent that is to have an option to switch tag to brazil and get portugal in a PU. This could also be available to other 'medium-smal' countries, if most of your provinces are occupied and you have a colonial nation with bigger development you can switch to the colonial nation and get a PU with the original country.

No.

They fled in 1807 (8?), they tried to move back in 1821 (while some folks have suggested it actually was the weather, more likely it was to keep Brazil happy and not have it go all American Revolution on Portugal). A year later Brazil declared independence. In between, Portugal tried to return them to colonial nation status and that didn't go well.

Well soon is a relative term, 20 years isn't that long. And It still doesn't fit with the whole personal union under brazil thing. Becuase in that case it'll be portugal who declares independence.

But they moved the capital back to portugal soon after the war didn't they?

Not really, what happened was that eventually there was a liberal revolution in portugal and ended with the king john vi returning to portugal and accepting a constitutional monarchy, he left his son prince pedro as regent of brazil, the prince started a series of reforms that led to brazil becoming de facto independent and 2 years later he declared independence and was crowned emperor of brazil. In the game this could be represented as switching your tag to brazil and getting portugal under a pu, and eventualy portugal could revolt and get its independence.

If that was the course of events then I see no problem with those mechanics.
