Mother Britain! A UK Communist AAR:

Hello, members of the forums and welcome to my first HOI4 AAR. I only got the game a few days ago but I am slowly learning the ropes and enjoying it so far. This AAR will follow the Union of Britain in their attempt to spread communism to the wider world.

I should also state that I admittedly used the console to make the UK Communist at the very start of the 1936 timeline. Mostly because I wanted to start spreading communism to other nations as soon as possible. I intend to write a short origin as to how the Union of Britain came to be in the first chapter.

Furthermore, the game is not actually starting at the start of 1936, the AAR actually starts in May 1937, simply because I only properly decided to turn the game into a AAR at that point.

Oh I have tried Syndicalist Britain in Kaiserreich, but I have not got my head round Kaiserreich mechanics yet so I thought I would do a base game communist Britain instead. At some point I will definitely do a Kaiserreich AAR.

The past and present state of the Union. (May 1937)

The Rise of the Union:

It is May 1937 and the Union of Britain stands as a bastion of communism in the Atlantic, having ousted the Conservatives in a referendum in early 1936 after a upshot of support in the early 1930's. Having limited exports, enacted extensive conscription laws and partially mobilized the economy, the Union seeks to spread communism to other nations within the world. Ireland having been broken by the union a few months prior, now stands as a staunch ally to the Communist cause. Elsewhere, the United States is seeing a slow but sure gathering of support for the American communist party, while France teeters on the brink of ideological warfare. Meanwhile in Africa, British Kenya which was released by the union is a puppeted Communist state.

The Advancement of the Union:

Focuses:

The general focus of the Union of Britain has been to drastically improve the industry in preparation for warfare, while also improving the defense of the United Kingdom. Further focus on tanks and aircraft is likely to be the next priority.

Research:

In the past year the Union has greatly advanced in technology and is currently focusing research on artillery, the furthering of land doctrines improving research time, as well as creating the first tank destroyers. (Grand Battle Plan was changed to the Mobile Warfare Doctrine.) Previous research has been focused on concentrating the industry, improving construction, developing improved light tanks, as well as developing support companies such as field hospitals.

Industry and Trade:

The Union has developed a strong consumer base on which further industry can be established. The conservation of resources has also been paramount to the government with many resources having a respectable reserve. However, oil and chromium is limited in supply. 26 military factories currently focus on producing mainly tanks and the Hurricane fighter. The navy has had limited expansion over the last year, since most of the dockyards have cut down production in order to provide the tank and fighter production lines with oil.

The Army:

At present the army consists of 20 divisions under the command of Bernard Montgomery, who led the army in the war against Ireland. 17 of divisions consist of infantry with artillery support, while the 3 remaining tank divisions consist of a mixture of outdated Vickers tank and the recently developed Matilda tank. Bernard Montgomery champions the idea of using light and medium tank divisions to conduct mobile warfare against the enemy. The union also has a strong air wing, but there are plans to place the majority of the models in reserve and focus on fighter and ground attack planes in the future.

Elsewhere, Germany has re militarized the Rhineland and is likely going to attack Poland within a few years. Many in the Government, are hoping that the French communists will take power in France and place Germany between France and Russia which will likely result in Germany being destroyed. Let us hope that occurs.

On the road to War (June 1937 - December 1937)

The rest of May passes without incident, as does most of June, research soon turns towards developing marine divisions in order to supplement the Union Army.

Around this time, the Government elects to create 6 garrison divisions in order to defend the British homeland against possible future foreign incursions. These garrison units will be distributed between London, Cardiff, and Edinburgh.

July proves to be a interesting month, Amelia Earhart is successful in circumnavigating the globe, while in Russia the leadership is purged in a series of trials. Many in the Union believe that stability has been brought to the Soviet Union by this act.

On the coast, the finishing of anti aircraft batteries secures the English coast line against attack by aircraft. Rajani Palme Dutt our glorious leader, pushes for a focus on air rearmament and Parliament soon passes legalization for the building of many new air bases particularly in Wales.

Meanwhile in Ireland, our communist brothers have began to create a small infantry army, mostly comprised of young Irish radicals. At present they are ordered to guard key sites within Ireland, which is in the midst of gradually improving its infrastructure and economy.

The rest of the month continues, with little occurring. In late August, the 1st Army of the Union finishes its training. Its troops are now well prepared for war in the future.

August concludes, with the first unit of the Union Defense Army finishing its training. Control of the defense force is handed over to Jackie Smyth, a general who believes in the old ways of entrenchment.

Unfortunatly our communist brothers have failed to oust fascism from Spain, in spite of the efforts of the Comintern. The Spanish civil war has concluded in the favor of Fascism.

Industrial leaders have sent word that the 6 air bases commissioned in order to rearm the air force have finish construction. Rajani, wishes for developed fighters in spite of the fact that the Hurricane, the most up to date fighter has nearly replaced all outdated fighter craft.

Disturbing news reaches the Union from the east, China and Japan are skirmishing with each and war between the two nations seems inevitable, this proves to be true since just over a month later at the beginning of December, the Japanese build up forces on the Chinese border. The fool Mussolini meanwhile claims Yugoslavia territory.

As if things could not get anymore tense Japan declares war of Shanxi, meanwhile back in the Union the plans for improved fighters are concluded and focus now turns to motorizing the army. Japan electing to strike China declares war on the 5th December. A united front quickly consisting of China and the People's republic of China banding together against Japan along with several other Chinese warlords.

If you mean the political support for communism, it's currently in the high 40's if memory serves. I am hoping that France becomes communist and effectively blocks Germany between itself and Russia.

The quiet months February 1938 - July 1938

The following months were generally quiet for the Union, though the fear on impending German aggression resulted in Rajani moving the nation onto a war footing. Such fear were justified, just a day after the economy change, Germany annexed Austria.

Soon, the motorization of the army was complete and research into further tank designs were ordered. within a few months the research was complete . Having heard rumors of development of gas technology, Rajani ordered that gas masks be issued to the populace.

With the new found knowledge about tank designs, a group of scientists were ordered to develop a stronger form of tank capable of being able to fulfilling multiple roles on the ever changing battlefield.

By May, the first division of Marines finished training in Dover. Rigorously trained and given the status of elite forces, these men trained in amphibious warfare were placed under the command of Merton Beckwith-Smith. Smith was a commando who was intent in ensuring that the Union Marines would remain an elite force in the Union.

Soon, gas masks had been properly distributed throughout the Union and the Birmingham Small Arms Company was ordered to expand their capacity to reduce infantry equipment costs.

July proved to be a important month, for after many years of improving the influence of the communist party in France, as well as organizing a coup the union received word that the Communists had started a revolution in Brittany and other provinces in France. The revolution is small at present, but with our help the Communist party will usurp the democrats in Paris. It is time to break the chains!

Tis a failed revolution im afraid just played through it and the French communist AI was moronic. My two divisions did what they could but alas Democratic France prevails.
