So, my start date is 769. I create a ruler for Kent with the Strong trait, a few negative modifiers to cancel that out, and wind up with him starting at the age of 29 with a military education. (Level 1, gets to level 3 before I finish creating the duchy of Kent). Anyway, because my character is celibate (though he has two sons and a daughter), only women older than 45 will marry him. I'm playing with the "Old Age" mod, that introduces old age between the age of 50 and 60 with a -2.00 modifier to health.

Despite getting the trait at 52 years old, my character lives to 78. That's a VERY long time with the old age mod.

In the course of his life, he had 14 wives. (He outlived 13 of them, and his 14th outlived him.) He never divorced any of them, never murdered any of them.

Now, I'll grant the circumstances were exceptional, and the old age mod hurt the wives more than it hurt him, but still... 14 wives for a Catholic ruler?

That's an impressive amount. The most I've managed was eight or nine, but that was with some really bad luck with seductions, and lets just say... they didn't die natural deaths.

I missed most of the hell on that because I got SUPER busy right around that time. So they toned back seductions in time, it seems.

That is a lot!

The most I've ever had was I think 7, because the first 3 cheated on me and I executed them, and then the 4th died during childbirth, 5th died of pneumonia, 6th cheated on me and I executed her, and the 7th was my last who died of natural causes after I was gone.

Not Catholic, but my Messalian monogamist King reached around 10. Might have been more. I was only marrying older than 45 women and giving them duchies...

Similar question, what's the most legitimate kids you've ever had as a monogamous ruler? I managed to get to ten once (the king in question lived to 78 and had about four different wives).

The most I recall was 7 wives as an Orthodox ruler. A succession of them getting ill or diseased in their 20's. I think 1 was murdered by a rival after being caught trying to kill other one of my kids from an earlier wife.

Most of my characters and their wives are stewardship education so it's not totally uncommon hit double digits for kids without trying thanks to the fertility boost on both chars, especially if the first wife dies young.

16, I think, on a King (or maybe Emperor) who lived into his 60s. But I'm fairly sure not all of them were legitimately his. (He was a lustful Grey Eminence, and his wife was a lustful Midas Touched and he got suspicious of the pregnancies at least twice that I recall, though nothing ever came of it.)

I usually leave the ruler unmarried if he had enough children.

In a particularly unlucky game I lost 6 wives, one after the after by the distance of a few years from each other, all because of poor health or illness, beside one that I executed because she banged one of my commanders. I was desperate, about 40 years old, with only one daughter from my first marriage. Out of desperation I married a lowborn and in about ten years, before she died of pneumonia, she gave me 4 males (blessed woman!). So I decided to spend my last years in celibate. The guy died 81 years old, outliving his daughter and three of his sons... at the end, the only son of my departed first born inherited the throne (primogeniture ftw)... just to be assassinated and replaced by my youngest homosexual ambitious childless child a couple of years later.

Luckily, knowing his queerness, I married him to a lustful princess that had children from everyone but him. Well played old geezer I said to my(self) defunct predecessor.

And there, I thought 7 wives was a lot... :D

edit: how many children did you have out of 14 marriages?

I had a daugther once that was possessed/demonic child (that chain of events that can happen) who had more husbands that i could probably count, she had >40 intrigue and was my friend, so she had 100 relations with me, I married her off to anyone that would give me prestige and then I would plot against him. She would always support me and very quickly kill them.

Never had that many, I usually pick a younger bride for my ruler no matter how old he has become so barring foul play or disease never have more than 2 or 3. The only odd thing I can claim in this topic is that I did have 4 wives in less than year one time when one wife died of natural causes and the next two were murdered almost immediately by one of the other patricians wives. I of course started plotting to kill her after the first one but she got her second plot to fire before I got my first one. I held off on marrying again until after she was dead.
