Most Shameful moment in EU4

As the title says, the moment when you've done something which just left you going "Okay, it's official, I'm handing in my player badge and crying in the corner".

I had this when I declared war upon the Byzantines as Ottomans and ultimately peace'd out without taking a single one of their provinces.

I couldn't defeat them....as Ottomans.

Granted it was mainly due to attrition and their Serbian allies carpet-seiging me but it was still a moment when I placed my head in my hands and began to question my right to call myself an EU4 player.

I forgot to raise maintenance on an army that was waiting for transport back from Sardinia as France, and pretenders popped (they were my vassal, so no warning as this was 1.17). My entire army of 65k got wiped by 12k rebels and then I lost a war to Brittany because I was bankrupt (1498 in BBB run) and lost lands. I had 102 provinces before but was still coring them when I got force peaced out and was back to 98 provinces....

As Prussia with Muscovy in PU (happened by chance), I defeated Austria and turned the empire protestant, then beat the living daylight out of the new emperor (and my former ally), Bohemia. Feeling Cocky, I turned to beat some more on Poland, who had been my personal dead horse for some 20-odd years. They had just allied Austria, and were still allied to Lithuania, but since Austria had been defeated not 10 years prior, I decided that it would be an easy war. (we're ca. 1610-20)

5 years 60k crack Prussian troops are trapped in Eastern Prussia, surrounded by some 160k enemy soldiers, while Musocvy has gone up in flames, and are ultimatively stack-wiped. That war cost me the last 50 years worth of progress. To date it's my biggest failure in a campaign that was well on the way to become a steamroll.

More than once rage quitting because I ignored aggressive expansion rampaging all over the place, only to get hit with a million man coalition.

More recent example of this was quitting again and again and again as Jianzhou because Ming either failed to implode or was hostile immediately (alliance with Korea also rustled my jimmies). Finally I just gave up and played Yeren. Also messing with the AI in order to score easy battle wins.

Being game-over integrated by Austria before 1600 in three successive games as the Palatinate.

Losing a one-on-one war against OPM Lucca as Savoy.

As France, accidentally gifting Alencon and Normandie to Scotland in a peace deal.

Even with ~200+ hours in the game, still failing utterly to understand the trade mechanics or work out what impact putting X merchant in Y role in Z trade node will have on my income.

Also as France, forgetting to raise army maintenance after meticulously planning an invasion of Argaon, getting completely obliterated and being forced to release practically every releasable nation in the peace deal.

Hard to pick the most shameful moment, so I'll mention a few harrowing experiences:

Being crushed by Austria as France because I was filling out a MIL idea group instead of teching up (they were tech 9, I was tech 7).

You'd think I'd learn my lesson from that, but not long afterwards I got crushed by Burgundy as Netherlands after I'd already defeated them in previous wars to form the damn thing (they were tech 15 to my 13).

Getting crushed by Orissa (admittedly a pretty successful one) as a huge Mughals with full manpower when I was tech 19 to their 17. I had yet to understand that one needs cannons in their armies after a certain point, they had just seemed like an expensive distraction!

DOW'ing Castile as Granada when they were badly losing a war, only to have them and their Breton allies turn around, smash me and kick me out of Iberia.

Lots of getting mil access, setting up troops to invade, declaring war, then getting black flagged.

Waiting and waiting for an event or some such to give me the PU over Lithuania as Poland, not realising it was a decision.

As with Leovinas; I could go on.

Colonized next to Qing when playing siberian tribes once. I thought arctic attrition, scorched earth and a few forts would be enough to halt any invasion. I was wrong.
When playing Kazan I spanned pretty much the whole territory of Russia plus the Caucasus, some of the middle east and a chunk of Mongolia, so I decided to declare war on some chinese minors that were allied with Japan, after all, what could that tiny, uncivilized archipellago do against a superpower like me? And then they finished westernizing a few weeks into the war, anhihilated my invasion troops and I could do nothing to reinforce or rescue them because my navy simply was no match to theirs. I still won the war, but had to white peace Japan.

Best game ever with France, the kind of game you can do a world conquest, prepare for peace against 3 majors at 99% war scorfe after a good 10 years of fighting..., make a peace deal to take 0 province instead taking half of their territory, cost me 225k manpower around 1000 diplomatic power and a few 1000 ducats in game for the mistake and a keyboard ni real life

As byzantium having conquered the ottos i went for the mamluks and it got to a stalemate where all of my allies blockaded all of his ports so i sent my troops into the libyan desert only to get stackwiped and obly after did i remember that the wargoal was to take cyprus which i could have done for ticking warscore. But instead he forced me to release candar

Playing as Hormuz in 1.17 going for Strait Talk, and I simply couldn't survive in Arabia for longer than a few decades, so in frustration I went for a full exodus strategy, colonized my way down to South Africa, moved my capital there, and gave up Hormuz to Oman. I then proceeded to:

• Fall to Fetishist rebels on purpose trying to get the +1 diplomatic reputation, unaware that you can't convert directly to Fetishism.
• Lose almost every single battle and war I got involved in in the entire campaign, including with Indonesian nations and Kilwa, which ate everything around the Mutapa area, declared war on me, beat me handily, and took two provinces off me. Ironically I think one of the only battles (and wars) I actually won that game was in the late game against Spain trying to take one of my spice island holdings.

(I did eventually manage to survive long enough to get the achievement. Somehow. )

Declaring war as England against France with the Humiliate Rival CB. Felt like a moron when after I sieged down al of their land, could not take a single province in the peace deal.

Can't decide between:
1: Prussia, allied with poland and lithuania (not poland-lithuanian PU), poland declares war against ottomans. As a loyal and resolute ally we shall stand with our heretic (catholic) brethren against the Big Green Snowball Menace and put the ottos on the downward spiral! 8 loans later and devoid of mapower I seperate peace out..
2: Still Prussia, in the big war against the swedes. I had about twice the army, they were no match for me, but they got an amazing general andthe fleet, so I couldn't cross through denmark. I send most of my army east towards swedish finland, they cross into my prussian owned mainland denmark, crush my two garrision armys and start sieging. I send an additional army west, once it is almost there they retreat back and crush the two armies I had sieging in finland. Rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat...

Playing as Nürnberg, I was allied with Würzburg and Bohemia attacked them. And since I wasn't able to take on Bavaria, Würzburg was the only way to expand for me. So I broke our alliance and the truce resulting in this.

Declared war as ottos against Byzantium. They called like 4 minor countries ( Serbia, Wallachia, etc) and lots of religious rebels spawned from nowhere, so they just wiped out my army
I ended up giving Selanik and Edirne to them. yay
