PGI's WHM-IIC is very, very different from the Victor Musical Industries design.
In order, PGI design, VMI design, Reseen WHM-IIC

While true, the same can also be said of PGI's Reseen. I'd also argue that it's pretty close to the TRO: Project Phoenix Warhammer IIC, if a little less... "blimp-like" on the CT. Plus, it's not like HG won't jump at literally any opportunity to litigate someone.

I really wish we could get a comment from HBS Developers concerning the state of the unseen. It would put to bed theis whole speculation and wishful dreaming everyone (myself included) is engaged in.

Something definitive that states the intentions of the Developers as to whether they intend to pursue this, drop this, or shelf this for right now. (this being the unseen). Would be helpfull, because the Mod's telling us to refrain from speculation in the face of no information is unrealistic, like having a conversation about elephants but instructing everyone not to think about Elephant Tusks, Trunks, Feet, Ears, or whether Elephants can fly etc. Pretty frustrating in my opinion.

Thanks,

As has been stated before, we aren't privy to the details of the settlement between HG and HBS. There may well be good legal reasons for HBS not saying anything (since both PGI and CGL are also not saying anything, I personally consider this very likely).

Disregarding mod requests is against site rules. So no problem there. Community members are able to excercise self restraint every day. I for one have faith in and respect for their continued ability to do so.

like having a conversation about elephants but instructing everyone not to think about Elephant Tusks, Trunks, Feet, Ears, or whether Elephants can fly etc.
Not exactly relevant. This is not a discussion thread. It's an empirical data thread. And all known data has been posted already.

Pretty frustrating in my opinion.
Fair, but nothing to be done about it.
This is how these things always work. If it's nda, it's nda. That invokes necessity regardless of frustration.

"Cunning is Feebleness beside Necessity."
Aeschylus: Prometheus Bound.
Prometheus: " ...All human skill and science was Prometheus' gift.

Chorus: Then do not, after helping men to your own harm, neglect to save yourself from torment. I have hopes that you will yet be freed and rival Zeus in power.

Prometheus: Fate fulfils all in time; but it is not yet ordained that these events shall yet reach such an end. My lot is to win freedom only after countless pains.
Cunning is Feebleness beside Necessity.

Chorus: And whose hand on the helm controls Necessity?

Prometheus: The three Fates; and the Furies who forget nothing.

Chorus: Has Zeus less power than they?

Prometheus: He cannot fly from Fate.

Chorus: What fate is given to Zeus but everlasting power?

Prometheus: This is a thing you may not know; so do not ask..."

The details of the resolutions of these cases are normally confidential, so I doubt we'll ever hear any official word on the matter unless the mechs get added into the game in a future DLC.

While I certainly understand the full details of the legal resolution might be confidential. I would hope we could at least get a general "Battlemechs whose images were originally based on Macross designs will never be added to Battletech" or "In success, all things are possible" type post to at least clarify whether HBS would ever consider adding these 'Mechs (obviously the redesigned PGI versions. Clearly the Unseen versions will never be used.)

Unfortunately, these resolutions come with NDAs that restrict what all parties involved can say. In this case, PGI and Catalyst had an agreed upon statement they could post, and then that was the end of what they could say. HBS, having not been a part of their settlement having settled earlier, I would think has no agreed upon statement and therefore can't say anything.

The best we can do is to be patient and see what happens in the months to come. Heck, we might even get a better idea of how things will pan out during MechCon in December.

What ever the ultimate outcome is, it will more than likely just happen...or won't happen. It is a time-will-tell sort of thing. In either case, I wouldn't expect anything more being said on this issue from any of the parties involved. They just can't talk about it.

Recent News:

Assistant Line Developer over at BattleTech's forum confirmed that artists are working on new mech art for classic and other mechs. I mentioned the Crusader by name, and the answer later in the thread was "Yes, new artwork will be the trend."

Sounds promising. At least on the CGL side.

While not directly related to HBS this is interesting.

With the two legendary Mechwarrior Cameos coming in the free update, hopefully this will put to rest what happened to the classics. If those mechwarriors arent in a Marauder and Warhammer i think its reasonable to say what happened. Fingers crossed.

I believe that IF HBS could talk about the status of the Unseen mechs that they would. Based on this I believe that the legal case was settled such that HBS can not use them and also can't discuss the matter due to the way the US legal system works.

I'm not convinced they are.
  • More Events, including cameos from two Legendary MechWarriors (these were part of our social sharing Backer reward from the Kickstarter, and we expect the other two cameos to make it into the next free update.)
The term Event has a specific meaning in the game... and the Event system is entirely outside of combat. If the cameos are Events, then they don't come with mechs and it has absolutely no bearing on whether or not we will ever have the Unseen in the game.

Edit: I mean, yeah, they can SAY in the event that they're piloting an Unseen mech. That isn't remotely the same thing as putting a modelled mech into the game engine.

There may be a bit of a misunderstanding here, Good @Pewpew!.

When it comes to Legendary MechWarrior Cameos, let's review what will be included in the Free Update 1.3, "More Events, including cameos from two Legendary MechWarriors (these were part of our social sharing Backer reward from the Kickstarter, and we expect the other two cameos to make it into the next free update.)"

Let's also review what were the four applicable Social Media Mission Rewards:

BT Ks Cameos.jpg

All in all, I find the BATTLETECH Event System a perfectly apt means to completely fulfill the "Cameo In-Game Appearance" original Kickstarter Social Media Mission Rewards.

Plus, there is no need BattleMechs of any stripe (Seen, Unseen, Heard, Unheard, Felt, Unfelt... whatever  ) to be a part of these Cameos. The four Skirmish Mode Legendary Lances and Legendary MechWarriors are completely different Social Media Rewards. : )
