I bought the game a week ago. Can't play much since I'm in University, but after a few games I got a bit bored of the standard Paradox-Vanilla-Syndromes (Blobs. And the rest)

So I got CK+, did a few tweaks of my own to make the game last longer and added titular titles for all dutchies etc, and loaded up shattered world. Now I'm the Waldesian Flemish Emperor, while the other biggies are just about forming kingdoms. Sure I did a bit of save/load whoring ínitially to get there in 150 year, but I have had my fair share of massive civil wars and stupid random deaths anyway. Currently my merchant republic vassals are making me boatloads of cash while my 8 duke sons are watch them and expanding my borders. Will be interesting to hold the realm together when my 8k prestige 60yrs ruler finally passes away

81% playing unmodded is actually relatively low compared to other games. Mods usually don't get over about 10% of total players between them, let alone 8.5% for a single mod. This poll actually shows CK2+ and GoT to be extremely successful, the other mods being about where you'd expect, and vanilla being surprisingly unsuccessful - tho that's most likely just going to be because most people won't have sent data.

The poll is actually also totally worthless without any numbers to back it up, just as Korba pointed out a few pages back.

I don't quite get the attitude of people like you. Ok, you can't play ck2 without mods, good for you, enjoy the mods, but don't assume that anyone who doesn't use mods is some boring freak who should be ashamed of themselves for enjoying a good game.

Your mods add flavour, perhaps Mushrooms or something-- I guess it depends on the quality of the pizza.

But aren't most of the Civ and Elder scrolls mods hosted at external sites anyway? Over here Paradox provides both facilities and even support to the modding community. Which makes it sensible they want to make sure those people are also customers.

Mods on this forum are in my opinion easier to be downloaded than on Total War forums, for example. Things are much more organized. About registering the game before downloading mods, it seems quite fair to me.

This is relative, I guess. I would bet you will not find 8,5% of players going for vanilla Medieval Total War. However, this percentage would be much lower in case Creative Assembly would provide one tenth of the modding support seen here.

Do you always look for hidden meaning in everything? Doubt everything, believe nothing, look for the tiniest details about everything?

The more relevant stat would be the average time played on each mod

But you won't have the data for the number of players, because you could re-calculate the whole sales.

Never saw a game publisher do that before years

Nonetheless I estimate CK2's sales at 400K unit

iirc it's going to happen for EUIV, but I don't think they'll add it this late for CKII.

Anyways, once only-females-inherit-succession law is enabled for modding the numbers will shoot through the roof. We all know what players really like to mod (compare TES).

Things I've learned from this thread:

* CK2+ players are supposedly more likely to opt out of sending statistics.
* CK2+ players get annoyed when they feel they are underrepresented in statistics.

Sounds like self-defeating personality disorder to me.
