I'm currently playing the U. S. in a regular Ironman game, and it just might be the most peaceful game ever (not something I would normally keep track of, however). I used the 1936 scenario, and it's now Feb 1940, so just over 4 years in, and world tension is only 13%. Germany hasn't gone to war with anyone, and they didn't even annex Austria (they did get Czechoslovakia via Munich). Austria joined Italy and Hungary in a Pact of Rome, but that faction hasn't gone to war with anyone either. Japan is at war with Communist China (which is weird since they have no common border and there's no real fighting), who joined the Comintern (but the Soviets have not joined the war). The only other conflicts have been the Italy/Ethiopia war that was already going at game's start, the usual chaos in Spain (Carlist Spain was the winner), and a kind of civil war in Brazil involving Portugal. That's it. Does anyone have memories of an even more peaceful game?

Things won't stay peaceful. Japan is at war with Comm China because of something on the Com China NF tree. There is a focus that lets Com China sabotage Japanese colonial infrastructure and gives Japan a war goal on both Com China and Nat China. Japan declares on Com China, but after a year or so, they realize they don't have a land border and the AI will use the war goal on Nat China to make a land border the hard way. Also, with no Marco Polo Bridge event, I assume your Japan went Monarchist? If that's the case, they are going to war with the USSR eventually, when they finish building up in Manchuria.

Hitler hasn't given up on world conquest, yet. Denying him Austria seems to make his AI a lot more cautious, especially when Pact of Rome forms (he loses Hungary, too in that situation). But he can still pick a fight with Poland. And he will, unless Poland goes fascist and joins the Axis. That would block off most of his war goals on his focus tree. If your Poland goes fascist, then yes, you are in for a rather peaceful run. Local wars may break out, but they won't go global and I doubt WT would climb above 65% at the worst point. Your only hope for a good time in that case would be for Germany to create the anti-Comintern pact, get the Baltics to join, then have Stalin try to annex them. That would fire a war between Germany and Russia that would pull a lot of countries in.

Down the line there are just national foci that enforce a state of war, so it might be peaceful now, but at latest mid 1941 the shit will start to boil. If the axis don't do anything the comintern will.

Interesting. My game is very simliar.
I'm playing Portugal and united with Brazil.
Carlists won the SCW.
Pact of Rome formed.
But Japan China war is normal, it's 1939 and WT is 28%. Let's see what comes up...

You were correct, When March 1940 got under way, the damn burst, so to speak. The Soviets joined their Communist Chinese allies in the war with Japan, and Hitler erupted in Europe. It's now early June and the tension has gone from 13% to 50%. Interestingly, the Allies (Brits plus the Commonwealth) have stayed out with France, Belgium, and Netherlands becoming part of the faction headed by Poland. There seems to be some friction between the Axis (Germany) and the Rome Group after Germany denied a claim by Hungary on part of Slovakia. It's becoming an interesting game. I like having Japan be at war with the Soviets, even though Japan is having more success there than I would like. I'm just quietly building up my industry and my military.
