Hi!

While it is fun to play the worldstomper nations, EU3 (like some other Paradox-titles) is more fun to play when setting oneself several goals to achive, I think. Surviving independent into Viki 2 as a OPM and other things. I personally find the Palatinate to be one of the most intersting nations to play. Being an elector state, having three provinces and acceptable sliders start positions, you have a lot of options!

Just to test how different an EU3 game can be, I started two games (no cheats) as the Palatinate with exacty the same goals and beginning decisions made. And it turned very intersting from the start. One of the games works well and my nation is on a good way. Nothing super, but good. The other game had one of the biggest runs of lucky events I ever had since I started playing Paradox games with HOI, CK and EU1. Inheriting Nassau on day 9 after a royal marriage on day 1, it set the Palatinate on the way to a really fun time! I am 50 years in both games, so the first cores get finalised, but I am already counted among the big HRE members.

So what is Your most interesting nation to play?

Depends, i say in MP most interesting nation to play is poland(you need to be very good player to make it strong). In sp i say that countries out of europe, because they leave you late game challenges. Once i conquered france as england in 29 years, it became pretty obvious to me, that it won't be interesting game, as no one is true challenge for such a power...

I like playing as Malacca (though I imagine Brunei would work almost as well) with the goal of forming Malaya and becoming the dominant Pacific Ocean colonial empire. Though I have a tendency to turn republic ... You're one of the few Muslim nations in a region of east asian religion, so you can holy war if you want. You start off with a coastal CoT so you're one of the few nations generating colonists even before getting the 1/yr NI (though you really do need that too). You start off with a few points in free trade and a 0 in Centralisation and Innovative, so you're closer than most in the region to the positions needed for Westernizing and you'll easily have 5 merchants in all known CoTs in no time. So you can largely do whatever you want.

Generally speaking, the best thing to do at the start is attack Ayyuthaya, because they will declare on you on day two if you don't. Champa often does too. But they are easy to beat. Well, on moderate difficulty anyways ... And your first mission is often to take one of Ayyuthaya's two Sunni provinces, so win-win. And the war gives you enough prestige that you can usually claim Aceh's throne before they get an heir. And if you vassalize Brunei and annex Majapahit (mainly to reveal the territory you need to colonize to form Malaya), you'll generally be able to form Malaya within the first 20 - 40 years easily. At that point as many people here say, you're basically the Netherlands of the Pacific.

Well imo outside of new world countries which are boring and ryuku that starts pagan, most challenging country is manipur(1 tax grain i think), but i never tried it, and i wonder if it would be a challenge.

I've played few times with Finland in modified 1399 scenario. The only modification that i've made is ofcourse independent Finland in 1399. Your provinces are dirt poor, lacking manpower, one of them is a colony and starting sliders are awful. War with anyone nearby will end in a disaster if it happens in the first few decades.

This except I keep Finland a vassal of Sweden for as long as the Swedes can keep you.

By christ there is no poorer western nation than Finland. in 1399.

Something I too have found out when a friend told me to while staying Finnish conquer the entire of Russia. Tip - Stay vassal and be part of Novgorod Trade league, no one else in that hits Lubeck so you have a good chance of 5 merchants as long as you keep the Russians happy.

I'm currently trying for Romanian unification with Wallachia. It's my most exciting game yet. Finally managed to ally with Austria, so I should be fine now.

Yep, steamroll games tend to never see the 18th century for me. I've always considered Byzantium to be the most enthralling, since even after you go through the grueling task of restoring your empire, you still have major weaknesses.

Edit - and I wholly agree with any nation poised to form Romania. That's about as difficult as I like a game to get.

I personally find any Scandinavian game interesting. There's just something about turning those mostly dirt-poor provinces into something worthwhile that is too much to pass up.

I like playing muslims countries. Specially Algiers and Yemen/Hejaz. They're soooo weak and almost bound to be destroyed, it's actually pleasing to suceed once with them. Also, forming a Hindu Hindustan.

Manchu can be a pretty cool nation to play as. They've got some really powerful decisions that'll grant you +66% force limits and extra discipline in addition to cores on all of China.

The Scandinavian nations are also pretty fun and versatile. Owning the entire Baltic coastline is a nice goal to set for yourself and you're rewarded by the sound toll modifier if you're playing 5.2. They can also be very good colonizers since forming Scandinavia gives you cores on Greenland.
