Hi,
I recently got EU 4 and have put around 10 hours into the game, mostly playing as England. For my next play through I want to switch to Asia. What nation is quite fun/interesting in addition to being noob friendly.
Thanks,
Duke

Korea starts out in a relatively safe position, has few complicated mechanics to distract a new player, and starts with one of the best rulers available in 1444, second only to Skanderbeg. You can expand against the Manchu tribes to the north, invade Japan, destabilize and invade China, or go the route of exploration.

I'll mirror what SignedName stated, after playing my first game as the Blue Monster and getting crushed by Burgundy jumping on me mid HYW, I started my 2nd game as Korea, had a great time and really learned the game.

The end result I'd call a failure today, but at the time I was quite proud of the empire I built.

Brunei, the Portugal of the Southwest Pacific. Isolated early, vast potential for colonization. Big navy. Profit.

For a new player, Ming would be kinda interesting. You get all the downsides from all your provinces being divided by 2, but you are big enough that if you screw up it would still take you several wars to be annexed completely. You can also do fun things such as trying to unite India (which is what I'm doing in my current play through). Ming is kind of a "too big to fail" type deal, with a few curveballs, like if you lose the mandate of heaven because you have a weak claim...

Ming is enormously overpowered this time around, as long as you don't get low legitimacy (in which case restart or use Bureaucrats faction to boost claim strength through events) before westernizing.

First, switch to Eunuchs, start fabricating a claim on Chagatai, and take either Kara Del or Sarig Yogir, vassalize and force religion at the same time. You usually get the mission to annex Kara Del so ue that and hte usual KD/SY alliance to get Sarig Yogir as a vassal. If the mission doens't show once you switch to Eunuchs, start fabbing on KD too.
Cut through Hsenwi, Taungu, and Pegu or Arakan, and then colonize to Maldives (160 range is enough), Mahe (need the Exploration +50% range idea for 240, northern Madgascar, fab a claim on the southernmost African province you can (near the center of its sea zone coast please), invade him and take it, core it, jump south, ideally to Cape in one shot, if impossible do a two jumps, Cape, then next to Kongo, and then somewhere near Cameroon, followed by either meeting Portugal near Gold Coast or pushing further west means fast westernization.

For ideas, you have two options: Exploration/Expansion/Humanism (westernize once you get the +3 Heretic tolerance)/Quantity (for the 4th settler policy)/Admin/Diplo/Quality?/Whatever

OR, and I recently realized this would be FAR better than having to fab so many damned claims to not bleed DIP once other nearby powers westernize, and the Admin as group 3 cuts the core cost far fatter than fabbing and waiting a few techs more for admin ideas: Exploration/Religious (the +3 True Faith tolerance gives a huge reduction to unrest if you convert all your provinces and hunker down to westernize, it also allows you to not spend DIP on wars basically anywhere)/Administrative/Quality (since you didn't get Expansion you need not get Quantity, Ming has huge enough Quantity anyhow)/Economics (to SPAM buildings with your enormous Ming funds)/Diplo/Trade (let your colonies do most of the colonizing, and conquer other colonies if you feel the need)/Whatever coupled with religious gives that culture change reduction policy if it's not Influence, if it is, whatever you want.

EDIT: sorry, I previously mixed up Diplo and Influence.

Well Ming is very OP currently. You can't really do anything wrong with them. (And even if you actually lose a war you have enough clay to fall back to)
But they are not very interesting.
If you want a relatively safe but still interesting Asian nation I would suggest: Korea, Settsu (strongest japanese daimyo), Ayutthaya, Brunei, and, if you don't mind sitting on the border to India, Bengal.

Brunei is definitely very 'safe' - you have no existential threats - you should be able to wipe out Kutai, your only neighbor very easily.

India in general is probably the most fun region to play in, period. But even if you start out with the big hitters like Bahmanis there's a high chance that you get dogpiled if you misplay.

Depends what you want, if you just want to dabble around and learn as much as you can, then I feel Japan is quite nice. It's not overwhelmingly big but you got to unite it first under your rule. Though admittedly Japan is actually kind of a "special needs child" in EU IV - as it's often broken after major patches, but I didn't hear about any particular bug this time around.

Basically you try to annex and vassalize all of Japan under your rule first and then you build more cogs and ships to either colonize or make overseas conquests. Very naval-heavy after you united Japan. Could become tedious and boring in the colinization phase or when trying to take land overseas come to think of it. I don't know I remember I had fun with it. Ming is very overpowered right now so if your goal is to make a complete playthrough then your survival and badassery is pretty much guaranteed as Ming.

I personally liked a game I played as Aceh. Granted that was before the latest patch and dlc, but it's where I really learned to master EU4's trade system. Plus it plays as a different type of game than one set in Europe.

Japan is a very interesting start and has unique models in the base game. It's a slow start before you can begin expansion across Asia, but the trick is to use enforce peace to take the winning side in your vassal's wars and they'll immediately hand over all their gains to you without a complaint. It's extremely easy to unite Japan before the 1500's, but since the new increase in coring and annexation cost, it may leave you a bit behind in technology.

Indian big boys like Vijayanagar or some South East Asian countries can work too. Hinduism and Sunni are easily the strongest religion in the Asian region.

Malacca, Majapahit, Brunei area all fun contenders for forming Malaysia. There's a lot of opportunities for colonization too if you want it. Malacca is rich and strong on trade power, while Brunei can eventually get the entire island to themselves early on while Majapahit can go on an colonization frenzy. There's Ayu, Khmer and others too but Buddhism IMO is a bit weak and tedious to manage.

Honestly though, unless if you start in India or only want to remain in the steppes, all East Asian nations will eventually have the one and same goal of conquering and taking over China, since that is easily the richest region in the entire game.

Had great fun as Orissa (was going for Servitor of Jagannath and it was my first Hindu/Indian playthrough, also manager Sun never sets near the end), but not sure it would be easy for new player, especially rough start vs Bahmanis and Bengal dogpiling you which made me restart 2 times. Maybe Vijayanagar is better for starters as they're bigger.
