What was your most ahistorical event...IE almost impossible to imagine a way that it could've happened in actual history?

Mine was a shocker. Playing as US, the Americans managed to avoid wars with Mexico and Britain from 1836 on. However, an argument over Cuban pirates led to a war with Spain in 1854 leads to the American-Spain/France war.

America manages to capture all of Cuba, and threatens to invade Spain itself, until Spain (and France) decide it's not worth it, surrendering Cuba and Puerto Rico to American control.

Unfortunately, this causes a rebellion in New England, over fears that Cuba will become a new slave state...which is exactly what happens. New England has had enough, and breaks free from the US. But rather than fight yet another war...and this time against fellow Americans...the US just lets them go.

But the American people revolt in huge numbers, and New York even breaks free and joins Canada while Cuba declares itself independent after seeing how easy it is. Four years after New England seceeded, the President finally gives in and declares war on New England.

The war is actually very easy, and New England is soon conquered, so America then goes to war with Cuba.

But while the entire army is wrapped up in Cuba, the revolts continue to spread, eventually taking DC.

The US government is overthrown and mostly executed...

...replacing the Democracy with a Monarchy!

1872...almost 100 years after declaring independence from a King...America apparently decided that it wasn't so bad after all.

:D

Anyhow, anyone else have a similarly shocking thing happen?

The most non-historical thing to happen to me was that I conquered Mexico and California as USCA. And the US turned Reactionary, and Crete broke loose from Egypt to form a Proletarian Dictatorship. France and England turned communist; India broke loose and formed Mughalistan. The Rest of the British colonial empire fell, bar Australia.

France won the Franco-Prussian war, annexed all of the South German minors (Bavaria, Baden and someone else) and conquered the whole of Rhineland, without human intervention.

'Nuff said.

The Crimean War: playing as Austria I stayed neutral, as well as France and England. Prussia joined OE and they kicked the shit out of the russians.

had a couple random games:

was playing as brazil and wound up taking almost all of the americas, save for roughly the land encompassing the original thirteen colonies and parts of quebec and the maritimes.

just recently played a game as OE, ended up with the northern half of africa, large swaths of russia and the majority of eastern europe, in addition to all of the middle east and central asia. during that game, usa and canada turned into socialist and communist dictatorships respectively. germany formed via conservative empire and didn't do anything after that. italy emerged as the dominant european power until i caught them leaving the peninsula undefended and left them with only rome and a few coastal provinces. the stranger thing about it all was i still ended up finishing 5th, as no matter what i did, i could not get my capitalists to do a damn thing. i think i ended with a level 3 railroad in every province and maybe 15 factories total? an odd game indeed.

had a few wacky prussia games, but nothing too out of the ordinary.

completely unrelated to the thread, but i've been toying with the idea of getting VIP, as i've been playing revolutions for a while and, well, the game has just gotten stale.

I see the various downloads in OHgamer's sig, but i'm not sure what to download and in what order to install. if anyone could post a link or tell me what i need to get VIP for Ricky, would be greatly appreciated. i'm looking for a new challenge.

Thanks in advance!

1) Make a copy of your Hard Drive Victoria w/Revolutions folder onto your desktop.

2) follow the instructions on the link to the VIP:R 0.2 page linked in my sig

a) Download VIP:R 0.1 - have it install into the new desktop folder you created
b) Download VIP:R 0.2 - have it install into the new desktop folder you created, on top of the VIP:R 0.1 install
c) Download VIP:R 0.2 Hotfix 2 - install into the new desktop folder you created, on top of the VIP:R 0.2 install

then click on the Victoria.exe icon contained within your new desktop folder, will start up the game. Choose one of the scenarios that has VIP in the name of the scenario, and you are on your way.

The Netherlands refused to recognize Belgium in 1836, and kept fighting. In response, Prussia, France, UK, and Austria all join the war (by event). PRU & AUS siding with Netherlands. FRA and ENG siding with Belgium. A 'great war' is born, in 1836. Then it quickly spiralled out of control. Russia joined, then Spain, then the Italians (a mess within a mess), then the Ottomans, Egypt, etc. Pretty much everyone. It was a total melee, by the end of 1836.

Germany was pretty interesting, since Hannover was still British at that time. The 'Western Front' was total chaos, in all directions. Anyway, not sure if this is "most" ahistorical, but it was pretty wild.

My games tend to be pretty historical for most of the time, but I once saw the Communist Party elected to office in the US in the early 20th century.

In a Russia Grand Campaign the CSA and USA made peace after Texas broke away from the CSA.

Then I had to give up because of the Ottoman Empire encircling my forces and forcing them to disappear after I annexed Moldavia.
