What was your most ahistorical event...IE almost impossible to imagine a way that it could've happened in actual history?
Mine was a shocker. Playing as US, the Americans managed to avoid wars with Mexico and Britain from 1836 on. However, an argument over Cuban pirates led to a war with Spain in 1854 leads to the American-Spain/France war.
America manages to capture all of Cuba, and threatens to invade Spain itself, until Spain (and France) decide it's not worth it, surrendering Cuba and Puerto Rico to American control.
Unfortunately, this causes a rebellion in New England, over fears that Cuba will become a new slave state...which is exactly what happens. New England has had enough, and breaks free from the US. But rather than fight yet another war...and this time against fellow Americans...the US just lets them go.
But the American people revolt in huge numbers, and New York even breaks free and joins Canada while Cuba declares itself independent after seeing how easy it is. Four years after New England seceeded, the President finally gives in and declares war on New England.
The war is actually very easy, and New England is soon conquered, so America then goes to war with Cuba.
But while the entire army is wrapped up in Cuba, the revolts continue to spread, eventually taking DC.
The US government is overthrown and mostly executed...
...replacing the Democracy with a Monarchy!
1872...almost 100 years after declaring independence from a King...America apparently decided that it wasn't so bad after all.
Anyhow, anyone else have a similarly shocking thing happen?
