I am playing v0.93 as Germany and I am fighting the Soviets. I have captured Leningrad, Murmansk, Archangelsk, Sverd..., Stalingrad, and Baku. Moscow is encircled but it currently has 103 Soviet divisions in it. Moscow is still the USSR's capital so all those 103 units are in supply. Even though Moscow is cut off from eastern Russia, the rest of the USSR's remaining army to the east is in supply as well. How can I take Moscow? It is an urban province with a high level fort. I cannot starve them out (since it is the capital) and bitter peace will not fire until I capture Moscow. Even if I threw my entire army and air force against Moscow I doubt if I could take it.

My options seem to be (i) manually fire the bitter peace event, or (ii) edit the save game file and move the Soviet capital, or (iii) I am open to suggestions.

I thought that in TRP the USSR would relocate its capital from Moscow once the city became endangered. In my game, I swung up from the southeast -- through Baku and the Caucasus to Stalingrad and then up to Moscow -- so maybe that's why the capital did not relocate?

In all my games with TRP they relocate the capital when i reach the borders of Moscow. So bad luck or bad install.

Sure u can take moscow. Lure those divisions out of moscow (get them out of the fortress) and give them some provinces back. Then encircle and destroy those outside divisions. Do this as many times as needed. The last divisions in moscow u can destroy with help of your lufwaffe (interdiction, logical strikes) and keep them attacking with troops from all directions (avoid over commanding) if u do right u can use 120 divisions without over commanding.

Good luck.

Yes, that IS strange. If Kuybyshev is still in Russian hands the capital should change provinces.

Actually, what happened is that as I approached Moscow from the west, the Soviet capital did relocate to Kuybyshev. However, my main assault came from the southeast (Persia to Baku to Stalingrad then north) so I took Kuybyshev before I assaulted Moscow. I guess the capital must have relocated back to Moscow before I closed the encirclement.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I decided to fix the situation by manually firing bitter peace. I could have edited the save to relocate the capital, but starving to death the 103 Soviet divisions that were trapped in Moscow - without firing a shot - seemed kind of unfair. Especially because the USSR had continued to build units in Moscow even after it was totally surrounded (since it was the capital).
