no need to get snippy. i'm not criticising your style, just pointing out it's idiosyncratic.

The word "idio" infront of anything is never received well, just a heads up even if it means something not insulting, it is immediately assumed to be "idiot".

anyone who is enough of an idiot to assume that is correct.

try looking up words you don't understand. idiosyncratic means roughly "unique to the person in question" with connotations of quirkiness and being unusual.

You just assumed I didn't understand it?

Sigh... technically that'd be in line with the definition of an "idiot" then.

You've lost some points on my intelligence scale for you.

I was giving you some life advice. Don't use terms that can be misconstrued easily.

yeah, and i'd bet i'm right.

oh no, i missed a chance to take life advice from you! and to think i was so desperate you think of me as smart!

terms can't be misconstrued online except by people too stupid to look things up, who are going to have problems with me anyway, hahah. and, heads up; you're way outside my Dunbar number. as a faceless internet entity, you have no ability to exert social pressures using such things as insults or flattery.

Only one thing I can say to this... Morrigi Dreadnaughts in SotS 1.

Yeah... let's make sleek, bird-shaped ships for destroyers and cruisers, then make the Dreadnaughts look like someone stuck wings on a stack of pancakes... >< Morrigi are not very good at this design thing.

Um... intelligent doesn't mean smart.

Um, the assumption that anyone would take the time to look up something unless they felt a need to is illogical. People read what they want and see what they want and if you give them an easy way to misinterpret then it is YOUR fault.

Also, my IQ is far higher than you think, much higher than yours unless you're a registered... well we won't get into that it would be boasting. My point is that I know what I'm talking about, I understand all the terms you think plus 40,000 other's that you've probably never heard of, and my point was to give you advice that is universal and widely accepted as normal and logical.

Now, your statements, response, and immature behavior give me indication that I misread you.

---

Also, it isn't really possible to be "stupid" in all truth, not by definition.

you're misinterpreting me.

i mean i don't care.

Also, my IQ is far higher than you think, much higher than yours unless you're a registered...

hahahahahahah, IQ.

well we won't get into that it would be boasting.

technically already is.

i'm in the top 0.01 centile for language ability in the Wechsler adult intelligence scale. that's not boasting (though it's not exactly a perfect measure). you think definitions are word of god.

yeah, i'm sure you know loads more words than me.

EDIT: okay, so going to stop this now.

percentile* not centile.

You can be in whatever percentile you desire for language, but you've already demonstrated an extreme lack of understanding in behavioral psychology, so make sure not to be a psychologist. As such, you've also demonstrated an inability to construe the proper use of terms in regards to daily society and accepted interpretation, so you can't be a teacher that can't be easily outwitted by his students. Finally, you've demonstrated a gross lack of respect and maturity, and by that, it negates mostly anything you think of yourself due to such things.

You can argue it sure, but you're fighting a definition that will remain solid for the next 20 years, and you can't fight a definition.

cen·tile   [sen-tahyl, -til] Show IPA
noun
(not in technical use) a percentile.

In today's society we do not use words that are no longer properly understood or commonly used as much as we use their advanced or evolved forms.

Not in technical use confirms this.

It would be highly improper to use language that is not so much superior or more advanced but is not with the current generation, as that would indicate an arrogance that is of course not honest because if one were so arrogant to do such a thing they would be insulting only their self.

---

You've only further reinforced my above statements.

Though being a librarian is also not a good idea for you.

OED disagrees with you. as does the report I have from the psychologist who performed the Wechsler tests on me. try looking it up in a british dictionary, which is where i'm from?

also, you might like to look into linguistic perspectives on common use, or how a dictionary like the Oxford English is compiled.

I don't need to divert myself to older style while you avoid the entire counter claim to your personality as well as the spot-on analysis of your failings.

I am American and as the rest of the world has followed, that term is no longer in common usage, and that doesn't mean that slang is suddenly the thing dictionaries advocate, but it does mean that language evolves and follows the times and you... have not. Though to be quite honest, I don't know exactly how you get along with others because personally your mentality, despite if you're capable of being polite to your friends or people you like, is very immature and disrespectful.

I am American and as the rest of the world has followed,

you'll note we haven't. i speak british english, not american english; i can recommend Mencken for an analysis of the difference, it's a fascinating read.

that term is no longer in common usage,

it's on the wikipedia article for percentile. it follows logically from quartile, as well. irregularity is the enemy of learning; that's one of the principles american english is based on.

Cheese wheels -> Morrigi playstyle controversy -> cat fight.

Yep, the train is off the rails...and now has to traverse the course on purple Morrigi cheese wheels.

Think we need a mod in here to clean up this random flame war. There isn't enough human decency on the internet to have a civil discussion between people apparently.

Alternatively, how about you guys take a step back and focus on the fact that no matter what is said, or the tone that's taken on this post:

It's *ALL* a matter of opinion. Everyone has one, there's no use to even fight over them because in the end no matter how passionate you are on the internet... your opinion doesn't matter to anyone else unless you have their respect.

Now my personal opinion on the Morrigi Leviathans (the actual topic of this thread - not the random flame war) - I love the design. Does my opinion really matter? Nope. I'm fine with that - just throwing in my random opinion into the mix with all the others.

That's because the wikipedia article is an encyclopedia that would of course indicate etymological points.

---

You'll also notice that we rule the world and you don't, so you very much fall in line when we say so speaking from a political, governmental, and militaristic view.

In any case, language has definitely expanded through American English in the countries learning English as a first or second language, and while England may be a bit different, that's more like trying to hold out against an overwhelming and inevitable force.

In any case...

I noticed my thread getting derailed but I have an unquenchable tendency to constantly reply to those fitting definitions of immaturity or vulgar behavior and try to correct them, it is futile though and I realize this, but I can't really stop it.

In any case, I really hope that's not the final thing for it.

---

Anaris you're barking up a dead topic, you lost, accept it.

Your way of communication, coupled with your severe lack of respect for others is NOT proper nor is it accepted as common speech. It can be an alternate term if it likes and it is definitely part of the origin of the word if it spawned off it, but that doesn't mean it is widely accepted or even commonly used. In America it isn't and since we set the stage... you will again have to follow how language evolves.

that's not an etymological point, which refers to things to do with the origin of words; percentile is from percent, which is direct from modern latin. it's given explicitly as an alternate term.

EDIT: i'm done, by the way; i kind of realised i was getting into a flamewar a few posts back, and am just providing information i thought he might like to know, even though it's totally off topic.
