Just a comment on the last event idea, " After the arab conquest however the lands of Nubia and Blemmya came under greater influence of Abyssinia as a last bastion of the chrisitan faith." After the arab conquest Nubia was not under the influence of Abyssinia at all - the shift was from greek influence of Makuria (orthodox), to coptic influence centred in Alexandria (egypt), even after the arab invasion. After conquering Egypt, the muslim armies attempted to penetrate south into Nubia twice but were ultimately repelled and a peace treaty signed that lasted for around 800 years, during that time relations with the muslim north and nubian south were largely cordial (due to their regulation by the baqt)- and Nubian kings and bishops maintained communication with the Patriarch in Alexandria.
