Personally, I think it’s rather neat how there’s the gameplay mechanic of introducing enemy Mechs with shoddy or ramshackle armor levels in the early parts of the campaign. It’s a great way of slowly ramping up the difficulty for beginners, while also being completely lore appropriate and fitting into the backwoods Periphery setting.

But I’d like to see this expanded out to weapons as well. How about poorly maintained lasers with misaligned lenses that only output 50% damage beams? Or faulty autocannon feeds that jam sporadically? This could work in conjunction with the armor levels to make for more flexible scenarios.

I think this is an interesting idea, but then those shoddy weapons might drop as loot and HBS has said they don't want any loot/weapons with maluses.

The problem is because you don’t get to pick any but a small quantity of salvage. So the vendor trash would take the place of other potentially useful bits and RNG would be an even bigger bear then it already can be.

Imagine RNGsus totally roflestoping you but you manage to complete your mission despite it and then you go to the salvage screen only to see RNGsus there laughing and giving you the middle finger as he rewards you with all crap loot while the 6 mech chassis and all the ++ gear gets carted off by your employer. That would suuuuuuuuuuck. Not to mention time lost as you inevitably and furiously mash the reload button to do the mission all over again (while making sacrifices to appease the gods of randomness and chaos).
