1. It's possible to do fine with Prussia without too much debt. Did you have tariffs, BTW? I didn't see them mentioned and they'd have really helped out.

2. You don't actually have to fight the danes at all. As for you being on the right track, it depends which track you're aiming for:

Are you using the latest patch (1.03b)? I ran a quick test game, and aside from the budget changes you can see here I did nothing to my country:

and I'm still making a fair profit.

Annexing some minors won't hurt your chances of Becoming Germany in 71, all you have to do is take Paris. Be careful never to lose a war with France though, if you do you'll never become Germany. I've fixed it so that only the actual war for unification causes the Fall of Prussia in my mod (see sig), should you be interested.

Oh, and if you do have 1.03b, selling techs for money will lose you prestige.

There's no "Of course" about it, I can't count the number of people who have posted a problem, the suggested solutions don't seem to work, and then they say "Oh, I'm using 1.00, does that make a difference?"
