Hello there! Let me try to explain what I mean. It's a wall of text. I know)
The setting of the Planetfall is quite unique, even if the basis of it lies in the fantasy grounds and some regular concepts. When I started to play this game I was interesting primarilly in the sci-fi feeling and all these tactical and strategical options. It's like a chess or a tabletop wargame for me, with all the managing capabilities to be a leader and to make your own decisions and politics and warfare on a global scale. It trains your mind, and it's a game, not a mathematical equations. And that's great! But..
What really lured me to the game, and instantly made me a fan - is the DESIGN and STORIES behind everything.
The DESIGN is amazing. I mean how many interpretations of a swarm race, or elves, dwarves, or dark things out there in the game industry. I've seen them a lot. But you created something that (for me at least) feels real, badass, deep and mystical at the same time. It triggers emotions and the desire to belong to one of the factions and to choose a secret tech, or maybe build your army completely of an npc units. There are so many ROLEPLAY options to create a unique game session. You can make a completely desert world with a lot of spacers, and a very agressive ai. Or a frozen world where you take a role of one of the rivaling Dvar Consortiums. Or to play as a Kir'Ko rebellion leader with your friend in a jungle world against larger syndicate forces that try to enslave your kind. Or to make your party of 6 heroes and went on a jorney. There are endless variations of stories, that you could create. And with the new expansions coming next year the universe of Planetfall will just grow bigger. But..
What about to take a NEXT STEP?
And I mean STORIES. I've read the Art Book, almost every unit and a landmark description, finished the last campaign and the quests inside them. But that's basically it. That's all you can get about the universe of Planetfall. I know that game is still in the developing and shaping, and that's why "I have the propositon" (dvar accent): MAKE THE LORE BIGGER.
In any way you want.. It can be a new section in the Imperial Archives about the universe, or its past, or just in-depth knowledge about the Star Union. It can be data-pads with some stories, or quests that fill you with the events of the world, or collectibles: like useless old items, that has some descriptions\stories that you can just sell to have more energy. Or some secret materials in form of research documents, that you can just read if you want. Or some lonely survivors who tells you what has happened to them. Any form you like. It doesn't matter how, while we can learn more about the world.
I know that the idea of the game and the campaign is to collect shattered pieces of the knowledge together. And that's fine! Let it be that way if you want! Just create these pieces a lot more! Words are pretty cheap. But they can do magic.
And I wanted to explain WHY. Why do you need all this? In the end, this is a game about 4x planetary warfare. It is doing good in the market. But this can be a beggining of something more bigger! I am a fan of Warhammer, and Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, and D&D, and Game of Thrones and many more. And if you look to these games\settings you may ask one question: "Why it is so popular?" I mean, look.. Warhammer is just a plastic miniatures, just a piece of material on a table. Star Wars? - so rich now, but started with a phrase "I'm making a space cowboy movie", and people dress in costumes of stormtroopers and running around with wooden lightsabers, pretending to be a jedi or a sith to this day. D&D? Group of people buying books with nothing but text and art, and then they are sitting around a table and playing for hours.
WHY? It's because all these people, all these fans want to be A PART OF THE STORY. When they look at a space marine on a table - they don't see just a plastic toy soldier, they see a brother of a mighty space chapter, who has know no fear, who are at some sense still a human, but perceived as a weapon of the Emperor, ready to die at any moment. When you look at the people playing Star Wars, they know what is the Galactic Empire and the Outer Rim, what philosophy of the Jedi teachings and how dark side corrupts. Around the table of the D&D game there are no more managers and nurses, no construction workers and teachers - they are adventures now! They share a story of bravery and death, of monsters and tresures, all in their minds.
So WHY NOT? Why not to find some way to make the Universe of Age of Wonders Planetfall much Deeper? To tell more stories about it? To make people care more about what they see on a screen. What terrible acts were made by Prometheans, what are the stories of survivors of these burned planets? What is beyond the Void and what exactly Psynumbra researchers discovered? How Amazon society works? Who is their Mother? What it was to live in the pre-colapse Star Union? What was like to survive through 200 years after it collapsed?
So, that's it. My message and my suggestion. I really want this game to be a beginning of something bigger. A whole universe of stories. The ones you care about.
