I think that the Ummayad fall game rule is a great addition and that the game could potentially benefit from additional similar rules. Such game rules could include the Norman conquest of England, the strength of the Mongols once they arrive, the Christianisation of Scandinavia, the rise of an Ismaili Shia Caliphate and the successful establishment of a Turkic sultanate of Rum among many potential others.

I think this has a risk of a game rule bloat, where every historic event is gated behind a game rule and you end up having to slog through dozens of them to put what you want. I'd rather have the historical events be in-game as base. Maybe with a single game rule disabling them for more alt-history games.

That being said, I do believe the ideal would be for the mechanics of the game to directly lead to those events organically, rather than resorting to special events and such.

I'd rather have as few historical events as possible, except for very obvious stuff like the Mongols. CK2 has never been about railroading in any way, shape or form. It gave the player the freest hand possible and I'd like CK3 to be that way too.

I agree with this. Too many game rules is as bad as not enough.

Hmm I think the principle should be: things similar to what happened in real history should be *possible* to happen organically in ck3. But some of real world history was really very unlikely and wouldn't happen naturally without some scripting. For example the Hundred Years War wouldn't have happened if Jean I hadn't died as a baby.

I'd be happy with a game rule to turn such scripting off and on.
