I know you only planed for 7 specific focus trees, but I think that even neutral countries deserve one.

For example Portugal was ideologically closer to the Nazis but it had a proud tradition of allying with the British. So you could have Portugal tip to any of the factions. They sold a lot of tungsten to Germany and only stoped just before d day but allowed the USA to use a base in Azores (another great idea , base lending ). It was also being prepared an expedition in Mozambique to liberate Timor that had been occupied by Japan (Japan surrendered before it could be lauched) . There is also the support of the nationalist Spain , the non aggression pact with Franco and how Germany planed to invade Portugal (operation Felix ). Not to talk of the spying , there were agents all over the world in Lisbon trying to get Intel (even fraternising with ech other).

There might be a lot more nations with a similar stance, I chose Portugal because is the one I know best.

What do you think? Is there any other country that was on the fence?

Yeah the devs said they hope eventually to add more.

But on the list of priorities I doubt Portugal is high. They'll focus on countries that were actually in the war, and rightly so. Countries like Finland, Canada, Slovakia, Norway would all be higher on the list

Yeah. Once they start rolling out additional national focus trees for the minors it should be for those nations that were actually involved in the war first. Countries like China, Poland, Finland, Hungary and Romania just to name a few. Or to be more specific, countries that tend to get involved more often.

It wouldnt suprise me if they focused on central europe first and work their way outwards.

As Lord of war said, I'd rather have countries that fought in the war first.
In any case, they will probably analize the data after a couple ofmonths and see which countries are most played.

I's not a question of do they deserve it or not but a question of budget and time.... Paradox isn't Blizzard, Rockstar or Ubisoft, they can't dump 200 millions in a game.... If HoI got 1-2millions that already great.... They had to make choices, plus it's not HoI2->HoI3 just a little update this one is a major overhaul and casualization of the game. So most of their budget went there plus there are all those promotional vids costing time and money for nothing.... Who will play the game on ultra fast, who will span 2/3 years in game in 30 minutes ? Who will use the stupid ai battle plan and not micro manage his units ? Well the one doing so just don't have understood what HoI is.... Well So many countries deserves a bit more in depht development but just è got it because time and budget. That's all.

I know that countries that fougth in the war have prioriti, but giving a bit more life to neutral countries that had the chance to join the war in either side could be very interesting .

I agree, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey (and many more obviously) could all be interesting countries to play.

The focus tree system actually has me super optimistic, it seems like something that can be easily expanded to other countries, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Devs add a few more after release, and I'd be less surprised if there wasn't a mod soon after release adding a tree for basically every country.

Something tells me its a bit more difficult to mod compared to National ideas from EU4, i think it will be a DLC feature due to the complexity of the interactions between different focuses.

It should not be a problem to mod for someone experienced. The complexity of the interactions mostly will lay in the research rather than in the modding of the files.

Paradox will have to start with trees for combatants in any case because the withering criticism for releasing "fantasy WW2" countries ahead of significant participants would be embarrassing and damaging to the credibility of the brand.

Europe, the early war, and player popularity are further priorities that sound sensible and credible .

If they went with focus tree DLCs bundling a bunch of countries, they have to consider what encourages purchases.
