Being bad in this game is extremely fun and rewarding. Colossus weapons, Become the Crisis, Become the Galactic Emperor... there are so many "end game" options for baddies to build towards. All of them are the most powerful options in the game and the most fun.

Being good, there aren't any defined goals to work towards. Sure, you can unify the galaxy with your ideals, but so can "the baddies", and their perks help them to accomplish this.

Anytime I start a game as a (non authoritarian non militarist) I just end up changing to become those or starting a new game so I can, because I feel like I'm missing out on the most enjoyable parts of the game.

Any ideas for goals or end game achievements / Perks to make playing "the good guys" more entertaining?

Maybe it's because I've played too many 'evil' empire runs, but I find it refreshing to fight off enemy doom weapons as a crusading empire.

I think rather than new 'good wunderwaffen' I'd like to see more soft power plays - the ability to trigger uprisings, balanced to be more effective on empires with large numbers of unhappy pops (i.e. slaves.... Or unhappy authoritarians that feel marginalised), basically letting you "empower" slaves (increase their PP) via modifiers to destabilise worlds and have them break away as independent states.

Also, I'd argue that good and bad are relative. I had a recent game on 3.6, full of slaver empires & a slave rebellion happened right before the war in heaven. The slaves joined the egalitarian AE (who happened to be near them) and we're shielded. The slavers pretty much unanimously didn't join an AE.

Watching former slaves start fighting the rest of the galaxy as a subordinate of an AE, and then get declared for sanctions by the GC is hilarious.

In the eyes of the slavers, the egalitarians were the bad guys.

How about propaganda bombing evil empire citizens to show them how much better off they can be if you win? I think this was something actually done in real life.

Good mechanic for an Egalitarian Media Conglomerate MC.

To be honest, many times I have wanted to play as "good overlord", caring for and helping my vassals develop (instead of seeing them as a means to leech off resources) and found the means to do so quite limited. Currently the choice is between strengthening yourself and doing nothing, changing it into a choice between strenghtening yourself (for an overall weaker, but more controlable empire) or strenghtening your vassals (for an overall stronger, but less controlable empire, with the risk of being backstabbed by those you uplifted) would be interesting, although I have no idea if that is within what the AI can be expected to deal with.

I mean, as Overlord you can specialise them each into a role.
E,g. They provide you with resources and you will then protect them from threats.

Nothing says you have to be evil as overlord. And everyone gets to have an important role.
