Currently in City Skylines when you make a University it is just something you place down. I personal have never seen a Uni that is only one building. All the ones I have been to or seen are multi building campuses, and sometimes they are spread across the city, even the ones in majors cities like NYU. I believe a way to makes Universities more realistic and dynamic is to not just make it a single building like an elementary or high school, but to make more like the residential, and industrial zoning tool. I feel this would make them more expansive and realistic. This would also allow for asset mods to be made to look like different universities. This Idea could also be applied to other things like parks.

A cool thing for the 2nd generation of the game!!
I imagine if the University be modular, similar to your idea, that be possible construct it by areas: A building for humanities ciencies, another for biological ciences and one for exact ciences.

More interesting if each one have a specific function after built, for example:

Humanities space: decrease violence and criminality
Exact space: better exploitation on natural recourses (more electricity, more oil extraction, more money from offices)
Biological space: decrease deaths and diseases, more agricultural production)

It's just examples, but that make senses for the chain in the game, closer to reality. Could be possible add library, sports courts, auditorioum, etc. like the Universities in real life.

I really like the idea of creating a campus. Right now, you kinda have to be creative with residential, unique buildings, and parks to make a decent looking campus.
It would also be nice to make a school campus as well. For instance, I'm from Oklahoma and there are lots of small towns around. The towns are not big enough to have separate schools, so they have pre-k ->12th grade in one school, usually divided up in three sections pre k->5th grade in one section, 6th -> 8th in another, and high school in another. But the school itself is not big at all. If anything adding a gymnasium and/or a middle grade school would be better.

On a side note, I find it rather amusing that some people want realistic features, like this for instance, but when it comes to realistic simulation like traffic for instance, it gets shunned. Now I'm on the fence about this because I do want better simulation, but it is a game however, and our PC's are good, but running a city with 100K peeps is resource intensive. And yet there are mods to "fix traffic issues" like the Traffic Manager, Precision Engineering, and Road Extension mods. I don't really have a problem with traffic, maybe it's because my road layouts are good or it just might be that I've played nearly every SimCity game and city builder to date, so it might have to do with experience? I don't know. But I know one thing they could do is to allow right hand turns at red lights.

While it is always nice to be able to do such things in the vanilla game, it is possible with assets from the workshop.
As an example, "FU" (Fluxburgh University), under construction in the image below, made a long time ago now by Fluxtrance (aka Flux).

He does a first person walk through as well. Adds sports fields and stadium after this.
