Having just seen the DD on a new disease system, I'm hoping that this will also be extended to having a similar infant mortality rate. At the moment, you can pump out about 20 children, assuming you keep swapping your wife when she gets too old, meaning you can get quite odd successions and, of course, massive dynasties. Is there any chance of increasing the child mortality rate so we a) have more stillborns and b) have more deaths.

I think it would be more realistic and make the game make more sense.

I apologize for not contributing to the actual topic, but I hope to god whoever was collating the "wonderfully horrible ck2 thread titles" collection is still around to add this one.

IIRC, early in CK2's development, child mortality used to be a lot higher, but the devs found two problems with it: firstly more children means more entries in the history which slows the game down despite children usually doing nothing, and secondly children have effectively no interactions before education so it didn't really make any difference to the player whether they had a child that died before education age or never had a child at all, it was just pointless information. So what they decided to do was make child mortality much lower than IRL, but also decrease fertility compared to IRL, so the number of children reaching adulthood was the same for both.

What's happened since then is that like all stats there's been inflation in fertility. There are many more fertility modifiers, they're easier to acquire, and most of them stack. So there are two ways you can fix this problem: you can be strictly historically accurate and increase child mortality, or you can be game-speed friendly and just cut down some of the fertility modifiers again/make them harder to get.
