So I was restarting the campaign and while i was on the first mission, this time around the Shadow Hawk proved rather damage absorbent.

I was breaching armor and scoring internal hits left and right but the sense of joy I got from doing so was very lackluster due to the lack of things to actually hit. I remember playing the TT (yes, yes, I know, "This isn't Table Top") and finishing the fight with mechs that were just trashed in every sense of the word. Gyro and engine hits, damaged actuators just about everywhere. Engines bleeding so much excess heat that you could probably spot the mech from space . . .

I understand that they took things out for "gameplay reasons" but I feel, especially after all this time, that that removal has harmed the game. Or rather, my sense of enjoyment of it.

Has/does anyone else feel this way?

And, hopefully the HBS team reads this as I'm not sure who to tag in to take a loot, do yout think they're looking into implementing more things for us to hit when we do breach a units armor?

Please dont.

They will comment on individual posts if they choose too.

Thank you.

I dont know...the combat system is pleasant enough when enemy mech fall down and go boom, rigging the numbers nicely in my favor. What falls off without critting doesn't bother me as much as dropping the mech.

I agree with the sentiment that there is a paucity of Critical Hits in this game, at least in comparison to the tabletop version. While I would be happy to see the possibility of some sort of simplified versions of engine, gyro and even actuator type crits, I can appreciate the fact that this would create a fair bit of additional complexity for only a modest increase in enjoyment. I currently play both this game and the tabletop version, so I guess I'm less eager to see all elements of TT play transferred into this game due to the fact that I'm already scratching those itches in my TT plays.

Also, if you're willing to do the work, you can modify the game to make critical hits more frequent. This of course isn't the same thing as you're asking, but I made crits happen a little more frequently in my game, and I think its better for it (feels more dangerous).

It's not about what falls off without critting. And don't get me wrong, the mech destruction sequences are stellar and I find nothing wrong with them.

I'm just talking more about when you do get the "structure exposed" pop up and then start seeing all the orange numbers indicating internal damage. To me, those seem a bit lackluster as nothing, except damage, is really happening. I miss seeing things start getting torn up as more and more damage is done to the internal structure.

Alas it has been decades since I've participated in a TT game. Which could be why this thread sprung to mind.

And as you say, thinking about it, the amount of work that would need to go into things would, without a doubt, be way more than the possible outcome. Plus, there'd be the additional workload of needing to make it an option toggle for those that didn't want it. And there's just not enough bang for the buck.

Still, it's nice to hope. :)

you should go to nexus mods, and try Battletech Advanced 3062. it is still a work in progress, rough around the edges, but it adds a level of depth and complexity that is lacking in the vanilla version.
