As per thread title.

If the player isn't actively colonising, colonial regions usually get divided by the AI. Then those colonial nations get their independence. Then the AI persists with their colonisation attempts and sets up new colonial nations. Then those break away as well. And the problem is, there's only so many colonial formables. After a while, there're independent Castilian Mexicos, Portuguese Brazils and French Louisianas all over the place.

Eastern America only has the United States* (where's Florida? New England? Carolina?)
North America only has Canada (Quebec? Newfoundland?)
Louisiana only has Louisiana (no idea what to suggest here)
Caribbean only has Haiti (Cuba? West India?)
Mexico has Mexico and Centroamerica* (Texas? Yucatan? splinter Central American states?)
Colombia has Colombia and Venezuela (Equador?)
Brazil only has Brazil (Uruguay? São Paolo? Rio Grande?)
La Plata has La Plata and Chile (Paraguay? Patagonia?)
Peru only has Peru (no Bolivia?)
Australia only has Australia (no New Zealand?)

California and Alaska have no formables at all, even the obvious California and Alaska (also Oregon?)

I hope this will get changed soon-ish.

*Acronyms suck, United States reads much better on the map than USA, same for Centroamerica and UPCA.

I actually want California, Alaska, and Oregon made. I'm posting the ideas for them on Tuesday.
