Why?
Edit the csv-files and you can get any kind of difficulty you want. Precision is more than good enough IMO. You can always add more options, but I'm satisfied with the options already in. I feel no need for more.

If you want country-specific choices, you can always make an event to balance things the way you want.

I think we are going to get more configurable difficult. Just compare EU3 to EU2.

Its not terribly difficult for us to get in and modify the CSV. Blue Emu and other have done this to create interesting and varried new difficulties.

However, thats mostly for those of us that truly love the game, and want to try something a little different. For the casual user, this is way too much work, and probably not very doable without going throughthe forums for a while.

In the end, were going to mod the difficulty anyway, so it doesnt matter if they put a screen for it in or not. However, if they do, it will make it easier for people to do this, including the not so die hard, and I think it will add some replayability to the game.

I wouldnt imagine it would be a terrible lot of work to include such a screen, and if it adds something to the game greater than the amount of work involved in putting it together, then I woudl support its inclusion.

It prolly doesnt even have to be in the initial release, as well all be playing the game to get our feet wet for a while. Its inclusion in a later patch would be perfectly appropriate IMHO.

I just want something for Japan and the US separately and distinct from the allies, axis, comintern, neutral and AI. Way too often, the japanese build their own alliance, and giving a benefit to neutrals means giving a benefit to the US and Japan before they (or if they) get involved in an alliance.

Yes please. Something I'd love to do is just give all neutrals -100% IC for my single-player games, so that they aren't contributing at all to slowing down the game, but that'd kill the US, the Netherlands, Belgium, etc. until they join the Allies, and Japan and China as well. It'd be great if we could just give country-specific modifiers.

Many more other differences can be made by country specific events or basic scenario modding. It's all there, you just have to use it.

you think spending a few minutes going thru a number of difficulty settings, that you'll likely only go through in their entirety just once, and from there only when you want to increase the challenge, or make it easier, is going to take longer than generating an event to do what you seek everytime it comes up?

What if your event fails, or you choose an event ID that is taken in the mod you try, or a patch invalidates it? Or you are somebody who doesn't know the first thing about creating events and wants to change the difficulty in a way currently unsupported? Whats more, with enough options, event based difficulty just might become extinct, maybe not, but it'd likely be restricted to extreme cases, and its rare that a player in that much need of dificulty, won't be able to exxceed it and mod his events like you seem to prefer.

I for one, would prefer built in options as thorough as possible, and CSV for anything the interface doesn't take well to. When it comes to options, more, ALWAYS more.

Let's just say that I made the experience that pages of options aren't of much help to the average player, they just overwhelm them. The others will be as fast tweaking a value in a file. That said, I'm not against more options, but I see much more important stuff to dedicate development time to.

Dude, if it's too difficult to add in distinct difficulty for the US & Japan - clearly two of the five major powers in the game - then they've got real problems. We're not talking about individual difficulty files for Honduras, or with a post-release Burma, we're talking the USA. And you think scripting an event is better? When you start making sense, let me know.

How about now? I think it's pretty safe to contend that a WWII game that pushes the US and Japan to the margins is at least to some extent, marginalized, and that's hardly a unique impression. I'm not talking about some random quasi-nation, some nacent banana republic or some recently-sprung colony. We're talking about the oldest continuous monarchy on the planet, and the largest economy on the planet. We're talking about one of the Main Drivers of the World War, and the Ultimate Ender of that war. It's gotta be clear that under HOI & HOI2, Japan and the US often formed alliances of their own, and didn't join the 'allies' or 'axis', and while the new alliance system might fix that, the difficulty modifiers haven't been discussed.

So while I'm asking for the devs to consider it, in a public forum, (obviously not the best place) you're trying to tell me that the devs can't or won't (or have and aren't saying if they would) consider it, which is just silly. Let's all stick to what we know. If you know that they won't, be sure to tell Johan that I love his work, major power difficulty notwithstanding.
