(EDIT oops sorry I posted this too early stand by for edits. I suppose I now I can get hired as a Paradox dev...)

Preface: Given the current state of the game, this obviously isn't any kind of priority for the devs. To be quite honest, I think a large part of this thread is just me writing fanfiction as a coping mechanism. With that out of the way...

Sidenote: more monument upgrades should be locked behind specific tech levels for historical era reasons. For example, given the historical era in which it was built, Pena Palace should require around lvl. 36 admin tech

Sidenote #2: I tried to be creative with what kinds of bonuses each monument gives and how they interact with other game mechanics, which I'm aware makes them tricky to implement, but whatever I already acknowledged this is basically fanfiction.

Note: I'm deliberately not including some structures that were constructed very near the end of EU4's timeframe, such as the Brandenburg Gate and the Arc de Triumph.
Some of this is definately pretty unbalanced - although not as unbalanced as Concentrate Development - so please give feedback! I also really enjoy coming up with these so reply with more ideas - feasible or not!

I was surprised there was no Kaaba and/or Temple in Jerusalem in the first place. They really need to fix the bugs and the development clown fiesta first but after that that's not tahat much work to add new monuments so I look forward to seeing new ones plus their models being on the world map.

Generally hard agree on everything in this post. Just don't make them waay too OP.

La Rábida would be a great addition for Castile. I think it is relevant in game's timeline perspective.

I don't know for the bonuses, but probably something to do with religion and colonization.

Fun fact: It overlooks the river Tinto. ^^

@Johan
As in 1.31 Leviathan Great Projects are added, why not add one or two of the most important mosques designed by Mimar Sinan and Sedefkar Mehmet Ağa in history to list? (could be integrated into mission trees)
1. Süleymaniye Mosque (by Sinan) in Constantinople (1550-1557)
View attachment 712389
The Süleymaniye Mosque is an Ottoman imperial mosque located on the Third Hill of Istanbul, Turkey. The mosque was commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent and designed by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan. An inscription specifies the foundation date as 1550 and the inauguration date as 1557. Behind the qibla wall of the mosque is an enclosure containing the separate octagonal mausoleums of Suleiman the Magnificent and that of his wife Hurrem Sultan (Roxelana). For 462 years, the Süleymaniye Mosque was the largest mosque in the city, until it was surpassed by the Çamlıca Mosque in 2019. The Süleymaniye Mosque is one of the best-known sights of Istanbul, and from its location on the Third Hill, it commands an extensive view of the city around the Golden Horn.

2. Blue Mosque (by Sedefkar Mehmet Ağa) in Constantinople (1609-1616)
View attachment 712390View attachment 712391
Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Turkish: Sultan Ahmet Camii), also known as the Blue Mosque, is an Ottoman-era friday mosque located in Istanbul, Turkey. A functioning mosque, it also attracts large numbers of tourist visitors. It was constructed between 1609 and 1616 during the rule of Ahmed I. Its Külliye contains Ahmed's tomb, a madrasah and a hospice. Hand-painted blue tiles adorn the mosque’s interior walls, and at night the mosque is bathed in blue as lights frame the mosque’s five main domes, six minarets and eight secondary domes. It sits next to the Hagia Sophia, the principal mosque of Istanbul until the Blue Mosque's construction and another popular tourist site.

3. Selimiye Mosque by Mimar Sinan in Edirne (1568-1575)

The Selimiye Mosque (Turkish: Selimiye Camii) is an Ottoman imperial mosque, which is located in the city of Edirne (formerly Adrianople), Turkey. The mosque was commissioned by Sultan Selim II, and was built by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan between 1568 and 1575.[2] It was considered by Sinan to be his masterpiece and is one of the highest achievements of Islamic architecture and Ottoman architecture. It was added as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
I suggested 3 Great Mosques which were built by Ottomans in EU4 timeline, I think at least 1 one of them should be added into game.
a. Süleymaniye Mosque
b. Blue Mosque
c. Selimiye Mosque

Benin is a joke right? For africa there are not manY but Timbuktu, askum and a few others will be ok. Not even real stone walls should not be included. The region was backwards. Thos inuit rocks are also a meme. Monuments need to be big important to a region, man made and influence an area for an era.

Hundreds of tourists still arrive to see it, like the Grand Canyon and Balancing Rock in Utah or the Dorset-Exemouth jurassic coast and its perfect arch "Durdle Door" (which has fallen down to erosion) or the white cliffs of Dover. Monuments are as close to a "Tourism" mechanic as you would probably get when you divide it from senses of national pride and religious beliefs (Japan's Mount Fuji, Australia's Ululu, Ireland's Giants Causeway etc) and you can probably imagine the benefits coming from people visiting the area so per to say in the game and having a welcome well set up tourist or local response with sherpas, local guides, boost to the local economies etc.

I mean i could least see notable hot-springs for instance as a important if it has duality with Native American tribes as well as European Settlers, as there were significant conflicts for control of them historically speaking (NA monument to plonk yourself over and farm high TD if there isnt already a settled tribe ontop of it then move on) or even a mountain ranges like the Alps/Everest or river Ganges being interpreted as natural sub-monuments repeated with lesser bonuses across multiple.

I guess the keyword would be "Exceptional Terrain of Interest", Gibraltar Rock, The Matterhorn, Dutch Polder Waterways (being one of their own invention)

Well today, I for one find it must be important in the game period. (Dont like Stone hendge, Ephessos and Pena for that reason). Gibaltar Rock gainend its importance as a fort for the British not because of the rock. The Matterhorn was just another mountain in an area where little economic or cultural importance was. The alpes as national treasure came later in Vic2 time period. Same for most other natural wonders (CIV has them eu4 does not need them).

I am also for a partial imbalance of monuments, where Europe and asia get loads more than the rest of the world. It was just that way. I would for balance reason limit some to cultur group, e.g. the churches of Paris, If one where to include Canterbury, Kiev and Cologne etc others are welcome like Cathedral of Sevilla or Cordoba. Some like aachen (if included) should be available for all e.g. the Kaiserpfalz of Charlemagne.

I can understand that these Rock formations can be very beautifull especially monument valley, grand canyon, briece and the area there, standing on the edge watching down shows how little we humans are. But at that time humans had little time to apreciate those wonders.

Lavra already does similar things...
Another issue is that in times of Troubles having this monument would be very wrong. In fact, Russia barely had enough stability - it fought vicious wars, expanded, had instability of highest order, Church reformation (actually pushed by Kievan clergy indirectly), etc.

If anything, Novgorod getting a Republican Russian monument that boosts Republican Veche tradition is a better idea in my humble opinion. Novgorod and Republican gameplay in Russia are far less viable sadly.

Problem with monuments are that they ALL can be developed 3 times, that doesn't make sense. How do you upgrade the pyramids?

Monuments are a nice idea but not well enough designed,

I think monuments should be divided into two types.

Upgradeable monuments & Monuments impossible to upgrade.

Conquering a monument knocks one level off it, at least i remember developer diaries mentioning something to that effect taking place. So would a nice compromise instead be...

Natural/Indestructable monuments aren't destroyed but give % less bonuses with more provincial devestation and are buffed with prosperity; pillaging the capital or wonder directly in a peace deal (players declare wars for money all the time, why not take monument cash, power project and anything else too like a mission firing to explore cheops then monarch dies of mummy-curse?) renders it inactive until the truce has concluded.

Advanced/Constructed monuments decrease a level when they are targeted with peace-deal or when part of the capital when it is pillaged, and carry % chance of being damaged during Horde razes, if you have a skilled fortification expert advisor you could probably have a counter-event fire to fix it for 1/4 of the price immediately. In return for vunerability they never shut off, and only decrease in levels until destruction.

You'd need consecutive wars to raze a monument, revanchism would speed back up the monument construction with nothing short of a mission or critical event (religious ideas heretic extremists rallying to raze stonehenge) to destroy a monument all of 3 levels at once.
