I thought if anyone had any thought on this strategy:

As Russia you start out large forest in Siberia and produce aprox 16 of the world 80 timer. Next to you you have Sweden that also produces quite a bit. With a few strategic conquests you can end up with more than half the world timer supply (thereby also lumber).

Is there any good to capitalize on this? Vickys trade system seems a bit flawed since if you start to stockpile your wood the price will go up, but when you sell it the price collapses. So you would probably have better of just selling as you go. (???)

I'm assuming you meant timber not timer; otherwise you could as well play as Switzerland. I'm pretty sure they have an edge on clockworks and such. :rolleyes:

If it's possible, you tell me; the price equation is given as:

codecogseqn.jpg

Where:
A is the price of a given resource at the world market;
B is the total worldwide demand for that given resource;
C is the total worldwide supply for that given resource;
D is the specific price given for that resource, it is stored within the moddable game files.

I've deduced this useless piece in an attempt to corner the market months ago (kind of easy after I recalled the existance of wolfram.alpha); but I hit the wall trying to calculate an equation for profit and became too bored to continue.

You make the ideas out of it. I have none left right now.

The only point in monopolizing a good in this game is if you can turn it into something else (that due to your monopoly status, other nations are hampered in producing). In the real world, if you have a monopoly you can set the price pretty much freely, but in Victoria the price is set automatically when you sell.

thanks so much for the fomulas and answers. can you derrive formulas from wolfram alpha?

i think you are right that you need to take over the whole supply chain for a certain product (timber, lumber and furniture)

If you manage to take over alot of the worlds supply you can then just restrict supply by putting people in other places. The price will rise but most of the profit from that will go to yourself.

Im a little sad that the world market isnt modelled in a different way. It would be alot more fun.

One thing that is interesting about the timber market is that alot of it is producuced by weak indians in USA. So them getting extra money is much better than "real" rivals getting money.

With the right input, I think yes; it does a lot of things. Though I used it rather to confirm my first ideas about the formula and saved me a huge job doing graphs.

But don't loose your inner Rockfeller/Pierpoint Morgan yet, fellow. :D There might be a way, and if there is, it will be figured out.

If one could take over ALL of the worlds timer it would work. All the higher prices for timber would only benefit oneself, with no gain going to other nations.

One other problem is how to restict the production of that good. Of course you can try to upgrade all the POP working on it, but other people will flow in.

One cannot close RGO like factories right?

How did you use wolfram.alpha to get that formula?

You can close an RGO, simply click into the RGO and you get a close button, just like you do with a factory. Unlike a factory, however, an RGO's expand button is not on the same screen as the close button, you first get the expand button and then you click onto the RGO window to get to the close button
