Hello everyone,
I just noticed the arrows allowing to set a starting date when creating a custom game (it's never too late ^^)
I played a bit with this feature and noticed that by 1227 (the death of Ghengis Khan), the Mongol Empire was already divided in-game: Mongolia (portraying the eastern Mongol Empire I guess, later held by Kublai Khan), the Chagatai, the Golden Horde and the Ilkhanate.
Isn't it very early?
- Considering Ogedei Khan expanded the (united) Mongol Empire until his death in 1241, with which the Golden Horde will be founded (but not independant until the death of Möngke Khan in 1259 when the proper division occured).
- The Mongol Empire did not fully expanded its influence in Persia until Ogedei's conquests (and during the reign of his successors) and thus portraying a Mongol Empire including Persia in 1226 is quite ahistorical (if I'm not mistaken... As I understood it, Genghis Khan only conquered Transoxiana during his war against the Khwaresmians and pretty much destroyed the dynasty but he did not conquered the full extent of their empire, and the son of Muhammad of Khwaresm hid and later tried to reunify the lands)
Was this done for balance reasons (avoid a huge blob including a full quarter of the whole map at some point)?
Even if so, this feels wrong to even portray the Ilkhanate in 1227 while the Mongols did not have Persia yet.
Or is this feature allowing to set a start date beyond the bookmarks, completely broken in terms of historicity (maybe not in terms of gameplay tho) ?
