Simple question: where does it end up. I stripped him of his title to clear the road for someone who likes me, but perhaps it's better to just ignore him for a couple of decennia as this way the money stays in your realm.

If I disown him, does the money ever come back? He'd still be in my prison but for some reason he's already 'moved' to somewhere else. Also, I'm playing with CK2+ if that matters.

Usually the money should stay with that character, and his heirs, for your whole game.

The only way to battle this, is to either
1) banish him from your realm, which will cause more tyranny but give you all his gold,
2) or wait until he has enough money to pay his own ransom, imprison him, let him pay the ransom, strip him of his title. Rince and repeat the imprison -> ransom part if you need to, since mayers usually dont need to pay a lot of gold, ofc. this will cause a lot of tyranny, unless you have some justification to imprison him.

I don't know about CK2+ but i believe you have to actually banish them to take their money. Revoking titles doesn't work. I have to check though, since i usually don't revoke them at all.

Excommunication is exploitable for constant imprison/ransom cycles, if that is your thing (hopefully they will fix it someday).

I'm fairly sure the leader of the court he is in will inherit his gold if he dies childless, otherwise the child gets it.
If CK2+ changes this then you might see something different.

Money passes to heirs until the last in line will give their money to you. I believe this works for negative sums as well.

You can try to imprison vassal if he has plot against you, fail it, then win the war, revoke his title and sometimes he remail your courtier. In this case you can banish him for free if he's landless. It wont work often so its ok to use it.
