monarchs, leaders and stupid file extensions

I want to create a monarch table. My country tag is u01. I start Notepad, cut and paste the monarch table from brandeburg, changing the ids. I start them off at 20 000 (the ids). The ids are the only things I change. I then choose save as, and I insert quotation marks ("monarchs.U01"). I place the file in the db\monarchs folder, start up my scen, it loads fine, no problemo. Problem is, even if I start a new game, save the game in february 1419, my savegames don't work...After pulling my hair out for hours I finally narrowed it down to the monarch table. When i delete the file from the db\monarchs folder, I can save and load games without problems.

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will pay in cash, alcohol or slavework for the answer to this one

Do you receive any error messages?

No matter what, you shouldn't be using IDs above 20,000 for your Monarchs. According to Johan and found in a sticky (the important note to anybody modifying anything):

Using ID's on leaders/monarchs above 20.000 is NOT recommended as it will crash the game eventually. Events have almost unlimited range of ID though.

This might - or might not - be your problem.

I don't think that the 20000+ ids would cause the immediate crashes, though; when we used to use these in the EEP, the monarch/leader lists would eventually get corrupted a hundred or more years into the game.

I don't get any error messages. When I try to load a saved game, it goes "reading scenario" (you know, the usual loading screen) but before it says "initializing script", I'm back to desktop, without error message. I will try changing ids to something below 20000, and let you guys know. Thanks though. Expect your beer in the mail
