I just got a (small) idea.

Why not creating events tied to monarchs (if possible, one for each monarch of the game) that would fire once that monarch rises to power ? This event would give some historical data*, possibly some cores and/or culture pertaining to his personal rights**, a decrease in BB***, and/or other pertinent effects. This idea sprang to my mind after seeing the various Conquests of xxxxx events for the Ottomans.

I know this would be much work, but we could at least start with the majors.

So, what do you think ?

* I always find sad when I get a new monarch that I get no info on him, his ties to the previous monarch, his general mindset and achievements, etc. Off course, such events would state if it's a fantasy or historical monarch.

** cores/culture that should possibly have to be cut when he no longer is the monarch.

*** for a monarch's son should not bear all the stigmas of his father's evils ; the exact amount should be scaled by DIP score, but aslo on personal character and length of his rule (as to not over-advantage countries getting a new monarch every two years, like venice or genoa).

hmm, interesting idea. I think about doing something like this for Polish-Lithuanian elective monarchs, but probably there are really colossal amount of work...

Yeah - I get annoyed when I get dumb "an heir is born events" and then nothing for actual imporant heirs :) I see three problems:

  • Dedication and manpower to create such events for 20-30 monarchs per state for 180+ states;
  • Player fatigue at being "event spammed;"
  • Modder fatigue at creating a new "filter" toggle for "monarch events" similar to the current fantasy and random event toggles.

I had been thinking about a broader "history" toggle, though, where you could get more detail on events, eg, than currently. Example: in my BYZ events, if you want the historical detail, you would get two events for "the tagmata" - the second one the normal, game-influencing event telling you what was going on and the first one explaining highlights of the history of the tagmata.

Don't really think there's the demand for it, though,
jay.

I maybe have a solution for this : make the events player-only (with the "ai = no" trigger). So, the player will only receive infos for his own monarchs.

But in this case, either the events should give really few advantages, or there should be invisible ai-only events (that could be used to trigger new ai-files when necessary).

Just an odd idea. :)

Yeah, that's a good idea too. With events explaining to the player what the hussite wars were if he's not playing Bohemia/Hungary/Austria, or what the Chambers of Reunion were if he's a neighbour of France who just don't get an event to notice it. :)

I had already thought of doing something like this myself, but never got round to it.

it should only be for the player, and should provide no benefits whatsoever. In other words, just be a small historical piece on the monarch and an OK button.

I had thought of doing it for the leaders as well, so you knew something about them - but that would be to hellish.

Is it possible to have events with commands having no effects ?

To have an event only for the human player, the trigger should have "ai = no", right ? Just checking.

Exact. And the ai = no is a definitive must (I've played those last days with the notification of every new monarch - aaarrgh  ).

I'm busy on the french real life monarchs for now.

For the ids, shall we use a new range of ids, or each country-specific range ? The ideal would be a subset of ids withing each country range, but I don't know if such subsets are still available...

I suggest a new range (8000000 for exemple) for all these events but without a subset within each country. I prefer to have in the id of the event, the reference to the id of the monarch.
Something like that :

for the monarch id = 04013 (Louis XIV for France), the event would have the id 80004013

now that is a good idea, yes. It would make finding and altering entries a whole lot easier.

Indeed, it's a prime idea.

Just a stupid question, but are there no limits on the size of the ids, since I see you give a seven-characters example ?

IIRC the greatest event-id is 2^(32-1)-1=2147483647

The greatest id used in AGCEEP is : 717199903 from the Alun's Reformation Mod.
As said by Hallsten the greatest id is 2147483647.
So we have a plenty of id to be used ! :)

Yup, probably.
Also, the game would probably recude speed to the point where oen in-game week was a week in real life... :D
